Video - Honda's Mobilio MPV video revealed

Honda's first MPV - Mobilio premiered at Indonesian Motor Show 2013 on 19th September 2013, has now come out with their first video. PT Honda Prospect Motor, the local subsidiary of Honda, have now released this presentation film on the LMPV (Low Multi Purpose Vehicle) which will launch in Indonesia early next year.

The car will first be unveiled in Indonesian market and will later be brought to the Indian market. We expect the same to come to India during end of year 2014. The car will be powered by 1.5L Earthdreams diesel engine along with the ongoing 1.6L Petrol engine currently powering the City sedan.

The video tries to capture the features of the car which includes the ground clearance - 185mm, which the Japanese carmaker claims to be the best in class.

Inside, the middle row seat will have a 60:40 (split) arrangement. The middle row seats are adjustable and can be adjusted to provide more flexible seating for the third row passengers.

On the 4,390mm long Mobilio, this is more of a necessity rather than a feature, especially in a place like India which gets very hot and humid during summers.

The video also focuses / highlights the roof mounted aircons placed just above the second row of passengers, and useful for both second and third rows.

The Mobilio seems to sport a capacious boot even with all three rows in place. However, luggage capacity can be further expanded by folding and tumbling the third row.

Mahindra & Mahindra to start selling branded apples from next month

The 16.2 BUSD group, Mahindra & Mahindra now enters into a more niche segment - branded fruit. The home grown carmaker has tied up with food retailers such as Godrej Nature's Basket, Heritage Foods to sell the apples under the brand name - "Saboro", which means - "taste" in Spanish.

The company is also in discussion with Reliance fresh to sell the fruits in the domestic market making use of their extensive and vast distribution channel.

The launch will kick off with branded apples sourced from Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh, where they will be graded and sorted in 15 outlets in Hyderabad early next month. "Consumers want consistent quality, backed by a trusted brand and are willing to pay a 5-10% premium," says Ashok Sharma, chief executive, agri & allied business, M&M.

So quality has been the focus for this initiative: grapes were sorted according to size and colour, apples according to firmness, colour and taste and bananas according to shelf life, appearance and taste. M&M will add bananas and grapes - which it produces for export at present - and mangoes to stores in phase 2 of its launch.

According to K Ravindranath, head B&M (F&V) marketing, Heritage Foods: "The Indian fruits and vegetables market today is faced with a challenge of delivering continuous and consistent quality fruits to the consumers. As a retailer our biggest struggle today is to deliver this consistency, for which we have to check every lot that comes to our stores.

With Mahindra, we can be sure that a consistent product experience will be delivered to our consumers." Said another senior official from a gourmet store: "In a commoditised fruits and vegetables market, a consumer-facing brand will play an important role in promising consistent quality."

Other than the Adani Group's Farm Pick brand of apples, the only fruit "brands" on offer to the Indian consumer are international ones - such as Chiquita bananas and Zespri kiwis. While M&M plans to export its Saboro brand, it is also looking at importing citrus fruits and pears from South America, kiwis from Australia and apples (during off-season) from the US and China. It will also import exotic fruits like dragon fruit, passion fruit and the star fruit.

Maruti Suzuki's small Diesel engine to power Small "Carry LCV"

Maruti Suzuki's small Diesel engine is no more a secret now. The engineers at Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan have been working on development of this small 0.8L Diesel engine for quite some time now however it would not be before early 2015 that the engine would be seen on cars running on Indian roads.

As per our close sources, there are two versions of this engine under development out of which one would be a "Turbocharged" one. The first vehicle to carry this small engine would be Carry LCV. Also, the new small car which would be launched as a replacement of A-Star and Estilo soon would also be powered by the same small diesel engine. It must be noted that the small car, codenamed YL-7 which is scheduled to launch soon would firstly be launched only in Petrol. Later, in 2015 the car would get a diesel heart as well.

The two-cylinder 800cc unit would power the next-generation Carry (codenamed Y9T) before finding application on the company’s passenger cars. Also, expectations of drivability and refinement are relatively lower in the commercial segment and hence Maruti engineers can make the necessary modifications before introducing it in their cars.

Spied - Facelifted Toyota Innova interiors revealed

Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the world's largest automobile major has seen the sales of Innova going down in last few months. The car major has already planned a facelift for the model and spied images and other details including the pricing of the new car has already reached our readers, could be seen again here.

The top end variant, "Z" as would be introduced this time is priced a notch higher than the top end VX variant of ongoing Innova. The Innova Z variant would be priced at Rs 15.08 Lakh, appx. Rs 53,000 higher than current top end. We were to identify the features included in the new top end and thus the reason for the high price.

We had earlier assumed that the new top end could get DVD player and roof mounted screen, however to out surprise there is a bad news. The new car which is priced higher than the current top end has none other changes than changed faux wood on the dashboard of the new car.

The rear seat though gets dual colored leather seating but it is not sure as of now that it would be available as an accessory or as a standard feature. Similar goes with body graphics as could be seen here and chrome strip running across entire length of the car. We will have to wait and watch for the launch to list out exact features that the new top end gets above the current version top end to justify the higher price.

The launch is speculated to be on 5th October or 9th October however no confirmation from the carmaker as of now. Stay tuned for more, while pricing and other info. could be viewed here.

Nissan hikes prices of its mid-sized sedan Sunny, Micra by upto 2.9%

Japanese auto maker Nissan today hiked prices of its mid-sized sedan Sunny and compact car Micra by up to 2.9 per cent from immediate effect, to partially offset the impact of rupee depreciation and escalating input costs.

The increase, ranging from 1.4 per cent to 2.9 per cent, applies to most variants of Sunny, Micra and Micra Active and would be effective from today, the company said in a statement.

"The prices are revised to minimise the impact of rupee depreciation and offset rising input costs and raw materials costs due to inflation," Hover Automotive India (Nissan's National Sales Company in India) Director - Sales & Marketing Nitish Tipnis said.

The price increase is marginal and the company is confident that the customers will appreciate its efforts to offer globally renowned products at affordable prices, he added. Nissan's mid-sized sedan Sunny is priced between Rs 6.29 lakh to Rs 9.86 lakh, while compact car Micra costs between Rs 4.90 lakh to Rs 7.21 lakh. Micra Active is priced between Rs 3.50 lakh and Rs 4.79 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi).

Last week, Mahindra & Mahindra had announced a hike in prices of its passenger cars and commercial vehicles in the range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 20,000 from October 1.

Earlier, Maruti Suzuki India had announced hike in prices of its entire range of models by up to Rs 10,000 from October first week, mainly due to depreciation of rupee.

Hyundai and General Motors have also announced increase in vehicle prices by up to Rs 20,000 to offset the impact of rupee depreciation and rising input costs, resulting in higher spending by new car buyers in the festive season.

Although the rupee has recovered some ground against the dollar in the past weeks, it had depreciated for a prolonged period. It has weakened against the dollar since April, pushing up import and input costs.
