New Nissan X-Trail SUV unveiled - to be launched in India soon

Nissan has just revealed the new X-Trail SUV  at the FrankFurt Motor Show and is now also disclosed that the car would be headed to India soon. The new car which looks much more sophisticated and modern than the previous car is what you would love about !

The new car has lost more of the off-road stance that the outgoing car had and borrows the styling cues from Nissan's other range of cars like Qashqai, Juke, Murano and Patrol. The Nissan has an angular nose and sharp cuts around the headlamps, which make it look more like a sleek crossover than a rugged off-roader.

Also, this would be the first car to be build on CMF (Common Module Platform) which means that the new car will be able to share parts like Engine bay, cabin, front and rear suspension which would reduce the cost by apprx. 30 percent and even improve the fuel efficiency of the car. Take for example, the new tail lamps on X-Trail will be much lighter than the outgoing car. The CMF system is expected to be used in approximately 1.6 million vehicles per year initially.

The new car would be manufactured at 5 manufacturing locations and would be sold in apprx. 100 markets. The Japanese car maker also claims that the new car would maintain the off roading capabilities of the outgoing car however would be available in both 2WD and 4WD.

The engines on offer will include the same 2.0-litre diesel unit as in the current car, albeit significantly updated, and a new 1.6-litre diesel unit as well. And there’s also the option of getting the car with Nissan’s X-tronic CVT auto transmission.

The feel of the cabin has been softened considerably over the earlier car too. Black, chrome and beige dominate the insides and the centre console gets a piano-black finish. New tech on the car includes Active Ride Control, which adjusts the suspension after scanning the road ahead, much like in the new Mercedes S-class.

The car could be launched in India with a price tag of below Rs 25 Lakh and could compete with Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavor and similar SUV's.

Stay tuned for more information.

Mahindra to hike car prices by up to Rs 20,000 from October

Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra today said it will hike the prices of its passenger cars and commercial vehicles by Rs 6,000 to Rs 20,000 from October 1, partly to offset higher input costs and depreciation of rupee against the dollar.

"The company would be raising the prices of its passenger as well as its commercial vehicles by up to 2 per cent. This increase would be in the range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 20,000 depending on the model and will be effective from October 1," Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Ltd said in a statement.

The increase is primarily due to devaluation of the rupee and increase in raw material costs, it added. "We have been holding back prices for a while but now it has become necessary to raise them due to increasing input costs, devaluation of the rupee and increase in some raw material costs," M&M Ltd Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Pravin Shah said.

The Mumbai-headquartered firm manufactures various models including the sports utility vehicles Scorpio, XUV500, Bolero and entry-level sedan Verito. Earlier this week, Maruti Suzuki India had announced increase in prices of its entire range of models by up to Rs 10,000 from October first week, mainly due to depreciation of rupee.

Earlier, this month, Hyundai and General Motors decided to increase vehicle prices by up to Rs 20,000 to offset the impact of rupee depreciation and rising input costs, resulting in higher spending by new car buyers in the festive season. Tata Motors said it plans to increase the prices of its passenger and commercial vehicles by around 1-1.5 per cent, depending on the model, either petrol or diesel.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor had announced a hike in prices of its key models by up to Rs 24,000 with effect from September 21. Last month, German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz had hiked prices of its entire range in India by up to 4.5 per cent from September 1 due to these factors. General Motors India had also hiked the price of its three models by up to Rs 10,000 from the first week of September.

In July, Audi had also increased prices across its models in the country by up to 4 per cent. Although the rupee has recovered some ground against the dollar in the past few days, it depreciated for a prolonged period. It has weakened against the dollar since April, pushing up import and input costs.

Honda Mobilio MPV to enter Indian market next year, first ever Live images surface

Honda's Mobilio MPV was unveiled first during 2013 Indonesian Motor Show and was announced for a launch next year. The Indian launch could happen around the festive season in 2014.

As the Japanese auto maker make these announcements, here we are with the first ever spy images of the car. The Mobilio MPV seen here is a silver painted car and is a top spec version, called as "E" in Indonesia.

The Mobilio MPV in India will be fitted with 1.5L Earthdreams Diesel engine and a 1.5L i-VTEC engine. Indonesian prices for the Mobilio range from 150-180 million Indonesian Rupiah (INR 8.41 lakhs to INR 10.09 lakhs).

The direct competitor for Mobilio would be Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which has recently achieved 100,000 units of sales in domestic market in just 17 months. You could also get a CVT gearbox for Mobilio once this is launched during next year.

From the front the car looks much similar to Brio however once you start gazing the car from the sides, you feel the aggressive look the car has got due to the side profile which has curves across its body. The Mobilio gets a larger front grille with a more prominent chrome bar running along the centre. The bumper gets a new faux air dam at the bottom while the fog lamps remain the same as those on the Brio.

The flared arch wheels gives it a macho feel while the tweaked rear window near D pillar gives it a longer longer or visually longer appeal. The wheelbase of the Mobilio has been stretched over the Brio’s to make way for more cabin space and its three rows of seating.

The Mobilio is 4.4m long, 1.68m wide, 1.61m tall with a wheelbase measuring 2.65m long and a class-leading ground clearance of 185mm. It would directly compete with Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga.

On September 16, he wrote an email to M&M chief. On September 18, Jayaram received a reply from Anand Mahindra, assuring him that his concerns would be looked into. It was only then the agency officials sprung into action and offered him a standby car.

Jayaram, who had spent Rs 14 lakh when he bought the vehicle about 18 months ago, said he made his driver lodge the complaint as the service centre first put the blame on him. "I want a fair compensation and action against the concerned employee. The agency now says they can compensate me only after my insurance claim is settled, which will happen after 90 days."

A spokesperson from M&M said, "Our dealer is taking all necessary action at its end to address this issue and the dealer has agreed to take care of customer's mobility in the interim period by offering a standby vehicle"
