July 2013 Car / Model wise sales of Indian auto market



July 2013 was one another low month for the Indian Automobile Industry. It's been exactly an year now that the trend starting looking a little bleak and we at Wheel-O-Mania starting to downgrade the growth to low level positive figures until we realized 3 months back that the exact figures for this year would be slight in negative - something we have always feared to write, for the hope that the market would grow !!!

The sales of 176K in July 2013, brings the ninth straight month with negative sales for the Indian market. Any ways, lets come back to the manufacturer wise performance and more importantly the products which performed and the ones which did not.

Chevrolet - Another lackluster month for Chevrolet India. Despite of three new launches, the already existing Beat remains the best seller of the month. You would be aware of the debacle happening at GM India right now, wherein about 25 top officials have been fired in Tavera recall case wherein the officers did not cared about the existing emission norms. There could be a bad news about Chevrolet Sail Diesel twins also getting recalled in next few days - fingers crossed.

Fiat - Nothing new to report to the European headquarters from India. The same dull story remains for Punto and Linea.

Ford - EcoSport, the new blockbuster in the Indian market maintained the momentum for Ford India and market as a whole. Figo has now come down to half of the earlier volumes.

Honda - Amaze remains the top seller here again. The newly launched Diesel engine by Honda has done wonders and over sells all its peers by descent margin, may it be SUV segment like EcoSport, Duster, XUV 5OO or MUV segment like Ertiga and Enjoy or the Diesel sedans like Verna, Rapid, Sunny etc. the Amaze has oversold all of them and is way ahead of all at 6,500+ units. City and Brio add descent numbers to a total toll of 11,000 units.

Hyundai - One of the only automaker which has consistent figures throughout the year however during July, the Korean car maker too has started facing the heat. Models like i10, i20, Verna and Eon have come down. Just a month more, on September 03, 2013 we could see another block buster from Hyundai - the "Grand i10" with U2 - 1.1L Diesel engine, the smallest by the Korean car maker.

Mahindra - Bolero, XUV 5OO, Xylo and Quanto hit the bottom - the lowest ever figures registered by the car maker during July. For Quanto a figure of 347 in just less than an year of launch seems to be pathetic figure. The mighty Scorpio still does the trick and maintains the total figure to a descent 15,000+

Maruti Suzuki - One auto maker struggling, yet performing consistently. This month the car maker registered low figures, yet higher than previous year due to low base. This was the year when the labor strike started and in a gruesome incident, the HR manager was killed by the workers. As far as this month's figures are concerned the company ended with descent figures of 75,000+ units.

Nissan -  Nissan's story has been disappointing since beginning. The small car - Micra which sells very well in Europe is hardly purchased by the Indian car passionates. The Japanese company also remains low on advertisement activities and hence has been losing share in India.

Skoda - Nothing much to report about the Czech based company. The Skoda Rapid too comes down to lowest ever figures of 1,077 in year 2013.

Tata Motors - The horror story for the Indian company continues. Nothing much to write about it.

Toyota - Fortuner remains the king of the segment with 1,600+ units, something which puts many other of half the price to shame. Innova remains low consecutively for fourth month.

VW - The European car maker hot hatch - Polo is the only descent selling car in the portfolio with Vento adding few more numbers.

Renault - The French car maker's blockbuster model has maintained the leadership in market for over an year now. With EcoSport entering, the fierce competition starts and EcoSport gains the leaderships for last two months. In Brazil market, ES sells much more than RD despite of ES being high priced than RD.
