Spied - Nissan Sunny facelift coming in mid 2014

The Nissan Sunny, as is called in India or Versa / Almera, as called in some other parts of the world is a popular vehicle from the Japanese car maker but could not take up huge volumes in India.

The car maker recently facelifted its smaller sibling - Micra and hopes to attract some good numbers from it. Based on these lines, we expect the car maker could also launch Sunny facelift  and plans to launch the same during mid 2014.

The Sunny facelift was first introduced in 2010 at Guangzhou Auto Show with certain changes done at its exteriors end - both at front and rear end. The rear involves changes in mildly modified bumper which means the overhanging part is now gone and also the new chrome grill is more wide as compared to the previous one - available as an accessory.

The changes at front includes chrome finish near both fog lamps and the major modifications comes in the form of tweaked design of headlamps whereas the previous ones looked simpler and bland, the new headlamp looks classy and modern.

The Chinese media are claiming a debut at the Chengdu Auto Show in September with sales expected to start by the end of the year. India and other markets should probably get it by mid of next year.

Do let us know what do you think about the car !

With rupee still depreciating you can expect other carmakers to follow the suit.

Clarified - Maruti SX4, Toyota Corolla Altis to attract 27% excise

The Revenue department today clarified that the cars including Maruti Suzuki SX4 and Toyota Corolla Altis will attract the lower excise duty of 27 percent and not 30 percent as compared ton SUV's.

"...it is clarified that the afore-cited motor vehicles (Maruti SX4, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Altis), which are known as sedans, will attract the excise duty of 27 per cent as applicable to large segment cars", CBEC said in a circular.

While increasing the excise duty on SUVs to 30 per cent in the last Budget, the government has defined three features of the SUVs -- engine capacity of over 1500 cc, length more than 4,000 mm and ground clearance of 170 mm and above.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram in his Budget speech had said: "SUVs occupy greater road and parking space and ought to bear a higher tax. I propose to increase the excise duty on SUVs from 27 percent to 30 percent. However, the increase will not apply to SUVs registered as taxis."

Maruti Suzuki threatens to shut down Manesar plant in Gurgaon

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker has now threatened to shut down its most modern facility at Manesar in India on the prospect of paying additional INR 500 Crore for its 600 acre land. The threat is significant as Maruti makes blockbuster models like the Swift hatchback and Dzire sedan at Manesar, which is also its sole base for making diesel engines.

"...If further enhancement is granted, the (Maruti) management may have to take a decision to discontinue the plant at Manesar," said counsels P S Patwalia and Abhishek Manu Singhvi while appearing for the company before the Supreme Court.

The higher compensation was awarded by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2011, and this had been contested by the landowners — who wanted higher award — and Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) in the Supreme Court. While the landowners wanted the enhanced compensation amount — granted by the high court — to be sweetened further, HSIIDC had contested the higher claim.

When contacted, a spokesperson for Maruti Suzuki refused to comment. Attempts to reach top officials of the company, including chief operating officer (administration) S Y Siddiqui, did not yield any result. The 2011 order, based on which HSIIDC raised a Rs 500 crore-plus demand on Maruti, had raised the compensation amount from Rs 28.15 lakh to Rs 37.40 lakh (per acre), leading to the huge recovery notice on the country's top carmaker.

We will have to wait n watch closely over this matter while there could be some other decisions taken up as Suzuki chairman Mr. Osamu Suzuki plans to visit India tomorrow.

Mercedes Benz E 63 AMG launch in India on 25th July 2013

It seems like all the three German luxury carmakers are getting aggressive with their strategies, and day-by-day the battle of becoming the number 1 luxury auto maker is getting more furious. Couple of days back, Audi has launched the sportier, stronger and responsive 2013 RS5 in India, and announced the launch of new Audi A6 on July 12. Now, its time for Mercedes-Benz India's answer, the company has already launched a series of new vehicles, and it is speculated that it will launch the performance packed E-Class with AMG touch on July 25. This model will come to India as Completely built Units (CBUs).

Under the hood, the E63 AMG has a 5.5-litre V8 that develops 550bhp and 700Nm of top torque, and the engine is mated to a 4matic setup that transmits powers to all-four wheel drive. The transmission for the 2014 model will be a 7-speed speedshift automatic gearbox. The previous generation model of the E63 AMG was powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2 litre engine that develops around 30bhp lesser than the current lineup.

The AMG version of the E-Class will feature a special AMG "A-wing" making the lower intakes and the twin-blade grille positioned just above it. A black finished rear diffuser and an AMG exclusive dual exhaust setup are also added to the rear. The inside of the car too gets the AMG touches like silver seatbelts and Alcantara inserts to the Nappa leather steering wheel and others. The exact pricing details of the E63 AMG is yet to be disclosed, but we expect it to be priced similar to its competition 2013 Audi RS5, at Rs. 96.81 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Honda's Brio Estate MPV gets inspired from new CR-V

If this is the new Honda's Brio MPV, Maruti Suzuki is for sure gonna tighten up its belts now ! After the successful launch and already a huge waiting list for the latest Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire's volumes are already down to 12,000+ units last month. Mind it, Honda will be the most successful carmaker (to register highest growth figures) in year 2013.

Now, coming back to Honda's MPV - Honda Brio Estate, these are the probable renderings of the upcoming car. The Brio MPV is being developed by PT Honda Astra Motor, the Indonesian subsidiary of Honda, under the supervision of R&D engineers from Japan. The MPV is expected to be ready for its public premiere at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) which is set to take place in September this year. The car could then be previewed at 2014 Auto Expo.

The car will enter production at Honda’s upcoming facility in West Java, Indonesia, sometime in 2014. The Brio MPV will compete with the Maruti Ertiga in India as well as Indonesia along with Chevrolet's Enjoy. The car is expected to carry the same Diesel engine - 3 cyl 1.5L 100PS engine which is certainly more powerful and good to drive than Fiat's 1.3L Diesel engine.

So, what do you have to say about the Honda's Brio Estate MPV aka Ertiga rival.

Datsun's first car to be called "GO" Launch in January 2014

Datsun makes a grand entry after its lengthy holidays ! Just as we write this post, Mr. Carlos Ghosn, Chairman of Renault-Nissan global alliance along with Mr. Vincent Cobee, Brand Head of Datsun announces the first car - "GO".

The car will be the completely engineered product in India and is all set to launch in January 2014. The car will be positioned below the recently launched Micra Active and is set to compete with Maruti yet to be launched YL7 (replacement of A Star and Estilo), Chevrolet Beat and similar. Just looking at the car, we cannot say that there is some sort of cost cutting on the car.

“Datsun will bring competitive products and services, modern and aspirational, while at the same time reassuring, providing superior value and specifically developed for the emerging and ambitious new Middle Class in high-growth markets. The Datsun cars will be locally developed with the support of Nissan Motor Company engineers and stylists and will be locally produced”, said Vincent Cobee, Head of Datsun.

The K2 will also be joined by another smaller hatchback I2 sometime during festive season in 2014.  The car is expected to be launched at price range of INR 2.99-3.25 Lac
The interiors of the car share some of the features from Nissan's Micra like the door opening and closing handles and finish reminds of the Nissan's vehicle. However, as we already told you the front seat of Datsun would resemble of Ambassador's front two seats joined and the gear box on the dashboard.
