With Stuttgart based Luxury carmaker, Mercedes already launched A Class here in India and Volvo with their V40 Cross Country the BMW and Audi are the ones left in the race here now.
BMW too started teasing its 1 series which would be launched soon in India and the same would be locally produced at its Chennai facility and thereby giving a stiff competition to both above. Expect BMW 1-series to be launched apprx. Rs 20-25 Lac.
The 1-series by BMW, codenamed F20 is globally on sale since Sep 2011. As you could see from the design, the front bulging kidney shaped grill and shark nose treatment, huge bonnet and large, recessed headlights give this car a premium cum sporty look, something a buyer in this segment would expect.
With 4.2m long, the car would be as long as Mercedes A Class launched recently with its front MacPherson struts and multi-link rear suspension shared from 3 series platform. The length of 4.2m also makes sure that the car would be roomy and comfortable.
BMW's premium hatchback would be rear wheel drive layout and is expected to be powered by 2.0L 181 bhp diesel engine and 2.0L 150 bhp petrol engine, which means the car could share the powertrains with the currently prevailing BMW's X1 SUV.
Expect the car to be launched in India in coming few months.
