Wonderful initiative to tackle street harrasment in Mumbai

A new initiative launched by a Tata Institute of Social Sciences alumni in conjunction with Mumbai police to monitor street harrasment and molestation against women.

India OYE (Open your eyes) is the name of the initiative which would be launched across  Mumbai in some time. At present, a pilot project has been started in Mumbai East area including Chembur, Deonar, Govandi, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Mankhurd, Trombay, RCF, Mulund, Shivajinagar, Kanjurmarg.

However, the initiative seeks an active support from the citizens towards building safe surroundings. Here is a  look at how it works -

  • You will have to submit report via sms/facebook/web/twitter/e-mail etc.
  • The staff will contact you via your mobile phone (the number and name details will be kept safe and confidential)
  • Your report is uploaded on the India OYE portal as a red spot on a map indicating the exact location of the incident.
  • Mumbai police will acknowledge your report and will take appropriate action
  • A feedback of the action initiated by Mumbai police will be updated on India OYE portal.
