The much awaited Mercedes Benz A Class hatch, the cheapest of all the Merc available in India has been launched in India. The car was officially shown to selected audience at a party in Mumbai on 4th May (View details here) however the official launch and price happened just a couple of minutes ago.
The Mercedes A Class will be available in two variants - both Petrol and Diesel - A180 Style being the Diesel version and A180 Sport being the Petrol. The car is come equipped with 7 Speed DSG with paddle shifters. The dimesnsions being little bigger than the regular hatchbacks in India with 4,292 mm as length, 1,780mm as width and 1,433mm as height. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency for A180 Diesel is 20 Kmpl.
A180 Style connotes the "Diesel" variant and A180 Sport connotes the "Petrol". The Diesel engine is currently assembled locally at Force Motors, Pune and is tuned to deliver a fuel efficiency of 20 Kmpl. The same engine is also used for the Merc C Class.
A180 Style - Diesel variant is priced at Rs 21.93 Lac whereas the A180 Sport, Petrol variant is priced at Rs 22.73 Lac.
The Merc A Class could get the first mover advantage as none of its rivals - BMW / Audi has a car in this segment. The features of the car includes -
The A 180 (Codename W176) is being offered with a 122bhp 1.6-litre petrol motor and a 2.2-litre diesel engine good for 109bhp. Both motors send power to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The diesel A-class reaches a top speed of 190kph while the petrol tops out at 202kph.
The car comes with 17-inch smoked grey alloy wheels. Other standard equipments include Bluetooth connectivity, seven airbags, ESP, bi-xenon lamps, USB and iPod connectivity, diamond shaped front grill and a massive panoramic sunroof.
