As we told you earlier, Nissan Motors India would be launching 10 new products until 2016, the Japanese carmaker has confirmed the launch of three products out of its portfolio in India during year 2013. Nissan has been doing fairly good in the Indian market. From the starting itself, the carmaker came with a strategy to compete in terms of pricing with the already established players like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai etc. and thereby planned to use the concept of economies of scale.
The Japanese carmaker thought of two important decisions to keep its costs low - (1) to make India as an export hub thereby increasing the volumes and bringing the cost down. (2) To share the manufacturing facility with Renault and thereby reduce the huge costs of capital expenditure including land purchasing cost etc. - the costs were shared between the two auto makers and thereby bringing the overall costs down. Also, the platforms were shared between the two automakers and thereby you could see the similarity in designs of their cars - Sunny and Scala, Pulse and Micra.
Nissan Motors India has now decided to press the accelerator hard now and to launch budget models in India too apart from the regular models. The three new models to be introduced in the market will be -
1. Nissan Micra Classic - "Micra Classic" would be a low budget Micra and would take on the cars like Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki WagonR etc. It would cut on the high end features and would entail simplicity in terms of looks. eg. Front Seats of Micra classic could be having fixed head restraints similar to Honda Brio, Hyundai i10 etc. It could also get just the basic kit in terms of just power steering, central locking and air conditioning. The costs could be saved in terms of higher equipments like Airbags, ABS+EBD etc. The car is codenamed G02A and is under development and testing.
Also, on cards is facelifted Micra which would replace the current Micra and changes would come in terms of exterior and interior styling. Read more here.
2. Nissan's rebadged Duster - Currently under works and codenamed H79N, would be the rebadged Duster and as per the senior management of the company, who refrained from divulging more details said, we could just say it would be pretty different from Renault's Duster in terms of sheet metal parts and would look even more stronger and muscular. Here are couple of Images and information regarding Nissan's version of Duster that we already shared with you.
3. Datsun Hatchback - The carmaker is also planning to introduce Datsun brand in India which would fall under the current Nissan premium batch and Datsun would take on the low end cars and the entry level cars. The carmaker is currently working on entry level hatchback which will be powered by 3 cylinder 800cc Diesel and gasoline engines. It has also come to our information through confirmed sources that the car maker is also working on Logan competitor which could come out of Datsun's brand and will be powered by 1000cc 3 cylinder petrol engine.
