Maruti to launch Dzire's Regal variant at Rs 5.60 Lac to counter attack Honda's Amaze sedan

We have always been saying - it is difficult to beat Maruti Suzuki in India, atleast. The Japanese car maker, "Suzuki" may be behind Honda, Nissan, Toyota etc. globally and even in most of the other countries but when it comes to India,Maruti Suzuki is the leader and will remain to be so.

The Japanese carmaker entered India in 1983 and since then has been adding various new variants, strengthening its dealer network, service networks, spare parts team, warehouses, true value etc. In short Maruti Suzuki would not like any body to just come and snatch the market share from them. Ofcourse, it has lost on the market share during last 2 years, but that will happen, as when the new entrants will come, it will sell out of the market and always the market leader willl be affected. However, Maruti Suzuki will continue to be the leader for many coming years in India.

Recently, when Honda launched their Amaze sub-4 meter sedan in India, it was all expected around that this car will take over the best selling, Maruti Suzuki Dzire. However, the very next day, Maruti too announced to unveil the Dzire's Regal variant priced competitively at INR 5.60 Lac with various new added features that Honda's Amaze offers. The regal will only be offered in VXi Petrol variant and will be available in showrooms in couple of days.  What's new in the new Dzire Regal is what we will answer now !

  • New Serene blue color
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Chrome colored front grill
  • Body colored mud flaps
  • ZXi trim's integrated audio system with tweeter and auto volume control
  • Beige faux leather cushions
  • Embroidered seat covers
  • Electronically adjustable and body colored ORVM's (Outside rear view mirrors)
  • Leather wrapped steering wheel cover
  • Car perfume
  • Body colored mud flaps
  • Body graphics
"Maruti Suzuki is very responsive to competitive market environment. We have seen it in the past... Regal variant is just another example of how nimble the company can be when it comes to reacting to competition," said a person close to the developments in Maruti, but didn't want to be identified.

The car is priced at INR 5.60 Lac, ex-showroom Delhi and INR 5.95 Lac, ex-showroom, Mumbai.

On earlier occassions also, we saw, Maruti launching Alto special edition variant immediately after Hyundai announcing their small car - Eon. Result now - Eon selling 8K per month however Alto continues to be strong and best selling car at 27K per month.

For this segment too, we expect Honda to decently add to its numbers by 4K-5K per month but Dzire would continue to be the market leader in its segment, though we could see small decrease in its numbers. Let's see how market reacts to both the automakers move. As of now, Honda's Amaze has been doing pretty well and has got 6,000 bookings. Initial response viewed during first weekend after launch was, huge rush at Honda's showrooms and ofcourse also getting converted into deliveries.

this is all because of Honda amaze launch, if no one is there in competition means they (suzuki)will kill us in price. Other than suzuki all give maximum facilty in thier cars for the same price. selling and being more years in india suzuki never fixed the price less for customer. Amaze disel variant low end price is similar to Swift VDI and amaze has ABS,and EBD in low end.

With Honda launching Amaze, having plans to enter small segment to compete Alto, launch MPV (compete Ertiga) and Compact SUV (compete Duster, EcoSport, SX4 Crossover), seems like market is gonna be much more interesting in next 2 years and undoubtedly the best for car buyers with much more choice !
