Honda Cars India has already made Maruti Suzuki cautious in its moves by launching Dzire's real competitor for the Indian market - "Amaze". The newly launched car has already received 6,000 bookings.
After launching Amaze, the car maker has now decided to take on Maruti's Ertiga and its upcoming SUV and Honda has decided to launch two new vehicles - first, the Brio based MPV and second the Jazz based Compact SUV for India. The Brio based MPV is codenamed 2NH and will likely be launched by end of 2014. The Jazz based Compact SUV will be followed by Brio based MPV and is scheduled for launch in first half of 2015.
Hironori Kanayama, MD, Honda Cars India, who underscored India being a "strategically important market" for Honda's global operation, said: "Our counter attack in India has just begun with the Amaze. We have a lot to do. Small cars, UVs are all under study. The SUV market is the fastest growing segment and we are studying every segment surrounding the UV space, small or premium. You can anticipate some interesting moves from Honda."
The MPV will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga and Honda has directed its vendors to gear up for annual volumes of 35,000 units. The work on the compact urban SUV in India is yet to begin, but the company had showcased the concept at the Detroit Motor Show.
