Hyundai HB20 sedan - i20 based sedan launched in Brazil - India next ?

Hyundai in Brazil has launched i20 based sedan - HB20 sedan in Brazil market. Recently, Hyundai launched HB20 hatchback and now its elder sibling has been launched too. The hatchback version of HB20 was competing well with Chevrolet Onix and now with the launch of Hyundai HB20 sedan it will compete with Chevrolet Prisma, which is sedan version of Onix hatchback. Both the sedans launched back to back will compete with each other in Brazilian market.

The sedan borrows its 1.0 litre flex fuel engine from the hatchback. To us it looks like a Baby Verna. As with all other Hyundai cars, it is Fluidic in nature and goes well its Hyundai's car language. It has sloping roof line and the end and near the tail lamps which covers the tail lamps just as eye lids do with eyes.

The entry level model is well equipped. The HB20S packs in power steering, air conditioner, dual airbags, power windows, audio system with radio and MP3, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The price starts from 39,495 Reals (Rs. 10.95 lakhs).

Coming to the Indian market, we are yet to witness three new compact launches this year - Honda Brio Amaze in April , Mahindra's Compact Verito and now Hyundai's i20 based compact sedan too.

Hyundai i20 is currently the hot selling hatch in India due to its variety of offering of features in India, i20 based Dzire sedan could further add to the popularity. However, the company has ruled out any possibility of stopping the production of Accent in India until 2016 since it is into huge demand in Algeria.

Since, the price of i20 hatchback is already highest among all other hatchbacks, we expect i20 based sedan to be priced marginally higher than its hatch version. Since, it would be manufactured on similar existing i20 platform - expect it to be priced marginally 25-40K pricier than hatchback. However, we will await an official announcement from Hyundai India about more details.
