Ford India to launch Figo Celebration edition on 04th March and not EcoSport

Ford India has listened to the rumours spreading on whole Internet and thereby confirmed that 04th March 2013 is going to be third anniversary in the Indian car market and to commemorate this, Ford will launch Figo celebration edition which even currently accounts for 80% of Ford India sales.

Earlier, it was reported that Ford's Compact SUV will be launching on 04th March 2013 and this turned out to be a complete rumour. Ford recently facelifted the Figo with 140 changes, lending it many new features like steering column-mounted audio control, newly designed seats, new lights and body colors. The special edition, keeping the mechanical kit in tact, could sport badges and other cosmetic touches.

Of course, even we are shattered in the similar manner as you would have got. But Ford India has again confirmed that the wait for EcoSport would be worth it and it would be an amazing packed vehicle with low price. when compared to Renault's Duster. Skoda Ahmedabad dealer, threw a promotion scheme in Newspaper which says "Buy a Skoda Rapid now and you will get a Skoda Fabia free after 5 years" That is one of the most innovative and unique advertisement skills that we have ever seen. This was recently rolled out in Gujarat newspaper, Divya Bhaskar, 26th February 2013 edition.

The dealer claims, this is Skoda 11th Anniversary edition discount - though it has still not been confirmed by other dealers. Interestingly, the Skoda dealer even goes to to offer a straight INR 3.5 lakh cash offer after five years in lieu of the free Skoda Fabia.

Honda Brio Amaze to be launched in India on 18th April 2013

There are two rumours that you would find across the internet these days - one about the Ford's Compact SUV, EcoSport and another is Honda Brio Amaze launch slated in March and April 2013 respectively.

However, the Ford's EcoSport is rumoured to be getting launched on 04th March 2013 and Honda Brio Amaze is slated for a 18th April 2013 launch - the later one being reported by Motor Vikatan facebook page. Honda Brio Amaze has already been launched in Thailand few weeks back. Regarding its India launch, it was already slated to be in April 2013 however there was no official confirmation on the date.

The upcoming Honda Brio Amaze will be powered by a 1.5L All Aluminium i-DTEC turbo diesel engine and ofcourse by a 1.2L Gasoline engine borrowed from its hatchback sibling - Brio. It has also been in news that Honda Brio Amaze will be priced near to Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which would be its major competitor and there has been rumours that Maruti Suzuki would refresh its existing Dzire to compete with the newly launched brio Amaze and create interest of masses again in the refreshed variant.

Ford EcoSport to be launched on 04th March 2013

Ford India has officially not confirmed any launch date of EcoSport in India however TopGear reports that the Compact SUV will be launched in India on 04th March 2013 in New Delhi. As per the sources, the carmaker was patiently waiting for the budget to be announced and now when the budget is already announced couple of minutes back, Ford India is getting ready for the launch.

As far the patiently waiting of the Budget by Ford India, it turned out to be in its favour. The Finance Minister has increased the excise duty on SUV's from earlier 27% to now 30%. This indicates that excise duty increase will be only for cars which are bigger than 4 metres. The cars less than 4 metres had an excise duty of 12%.

Since, Ford EcoSport is categorised in less than 4 metres mark, it would retain the excise duty of 12% and thereby no negative news for Ford India. However, if this is to be looked from another angle, Renault India which had launched Duster SUV on 04th July 2012 seems to be the major competitor of Ford in India will be negatively affected as the excise duty hike would bring a hike in price of Renault Duster.

VW Tiguan facelift spied testing in China - Already launched in Europe

VW's Compact Crossover Tiguan has already received a facelift in Europe in 2012 however the Chinese market is expecting the facelifted version some time soon. The spy shots of VW's Tiguan facelifted must have brought a smile to couple of faces.

The raised eyebrow shaped headlamps look neat now however the fog lamps look like standing lights with trails leading to the bumper. The rear lights retain the original VW tint.

The Tiguan for Chinese market is made by the Shanghai-VW joint venture and it is based on the Audi Q3. The VW Tiguan facelift is expected to be showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show which starts on April 20. The compact five-seat crossover SUV would go on sale in China shortly after its debut.

Coming on the Indian market, the Taigun SUV, which is a Compact crossover and an entry level variant, could be launched in 2015 only and not before as the car maker has still not initiated any plans for its launch in India. However, this could be probably the best time for a car like Taigun to be launched in India as this would generate substantial volumes for the carmaker.

As per our assumption, the car maker would display this variant from its line up during the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo.

Harley Davidson reduces prices of Fatboy and others by Rs. 5.5 Lac in India

Harley Davidson India has slashed the prices of Fatboy, Fatboy Special edition and Heritage Classic by massive Rs 5.5 Lac. The new prices of these bikes in India includes Rs 14.5 Lac, Rs 15.60 Lac and Rs 16.25 Lac - each cut by apprx. 5 Lac

The reason for massive price drop is that these bikes will now be assembled in India at its plant in Bawal via the CKD route. The official announced from the bike maker is yet to come but the dealers have started accepting the bookings of these bikes at the reduced prices.

Tata owned JLR launches Jaguar XJ Ultimate priced up to Rs 1.88 cr

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover today launched luxury sedan Jaguar XJ Ultimate, priced up to Rs 1.88 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
The XJ Ultimate is available with Jaguar’s existing 5.0 litre V8 supercharged petrol engine and 3.0 litre V6 turbocharged diesel engine, all driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed transmission, the Company said in a statement.
While the 5.0 litre V8 option will cost Rs 1.88 crore (ex-Showroom Delhi), the 3.0 litre diesel variant is priced at Rs 1.78 crore, it added.
“Based exclusively on the long-wheelbase XJ, the interior changes applied to the Ultimate focus on the rear accommodation, extending the car’s limousine remit to provide a fully-appointed luxury business class experience for the most discerning of global customers,” the Company said.

The Company is launching the luxury sedan with an eye to increase sales in India. For 2012, it reported 32 per cent growth in sales at 2,393 cars, compared to 1,813 units in the previous year.
Last month, the Company said it would start assembling a variant of its Jaguar XF in India, thereby bringing down the starting price of the model by over Rs 12 lakh.
The variant, which would be the second JLR model to be assembled in India, with a 2.2 litre diesel engine would be introduced in India for the first time at an entry price of Rs 44.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and would be assembled at Tata Motors’ Pune facility.
Jaguar’s currently available diesel and petrol XF variants with 3.0 litre and 5.0 litre engines are priced between Rs 57.15 lakh and Rs 1.03 crore (ex-showroom).

Audi celebrates five millionth car with a Quattro drive system

Audi recently celebrated the five millionth Audi with the quattro system. It was a white Audi A6 allroad 3.0 litre TDI and rolled out of Audi’s Neckarsulm plant, Germany, it said in a press release.

“Quattro is one of the key pillars of our brand and has been a critical factor in our successful history,” said Audi chairman of the board of management Rupert Stadler.

Quattro debuted in 1980 and has since progressed to encompass several systems. In the A3, Q3 and TT, power is biased to the front wheels but is capable of diverting almost all the engine’s power to the rear. Most models, on the other hand, put 60 percent of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels by default while torque is distributed between the wheels to maximize traction. Finally, the RS4 and RS5 use a version that can direct up 85 percent of the torque to the front wheels, or up to 70 percent to the rear.

The special Audi character takes on an exclusive form in the models offered by quattro GmbH, a subsidiary of AUDI AG responsible for developing and building Audi’s high-performance RS and R8 models. The customer can have his car customized by the company and order special accessories. Demand for this is increasing:the 800 employees of quattro GmbH represent dynamic growth over the company’s 30 years of existence.

Ford reveals all details of EcoSport, Europe version

Ford has revealed all the details of the European spec EcoSport and ofcourse there are lot of differences as expected.  EcoSport in Europe is also installed with the Ford SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity system as well as SYNC Emergency Assistance. The EcoSport will also offer Ford SYNC AppLink, which allows drivers to voice-control smartphone apps while driving. Note that the Emergency Assistance feature may not be available in the Indian market.

Apart from EcoSport, which would be launched in European market this year, other two SUV's to be launched would be Kuga (the C-Segment EcoSport) and the next generation Edge. Also, along the interiors, inspite of the dual tone interiors, Ford in Europe offered totally black colored dashboard and even steering wheel with red stitched wheel. Ford in its Europe spec model of EcoSport even has black colored dashbaord and steering wheel compared to dual tone interiors for the Indian market. New 2013 Hyundai i10 to be named Brilliant in India ?hy

The Indian car maker has always been interesting in the past and with the launches like XUV 5OO and then Renault's Duster has brought the country in the limelight - for its capability to change the fortunes - like Indian market did for Renault.

The year 2013 is going to be yet more interesting with the launch of Ford's EcoSport and Honda's Amaze however the launch of Hyundai's new i10 could not be ignored. The new i10 which was codenamed BA was also spotted testing around (click here for more details). It is now been revealed that new i10 could be called as "Hyundai Brilliant" as against its much anticipated name - i15. The new car would be launched around October 2013 and will be powered by a 1.1L diesel engine apart from regular 1.1 and 1.2L Kappa engine.

The carmaker, as per our confirmed sources is planning to launch a new car which would ultimately replace exisiting i10 but as of now, when launched in October 2013 will be marketed along with exisiting i10. View more details of car here. 

India bound Jeep Cherokee revealed - launch in 2013

We are back again with an update on Jeep's entry into Indian market. In continuation to our previous update, where we provided you an official update from the car maker revealing its plans to enter the Indian market and thereby confirming the launch of Jeep's product in India in 2013.(Check out details here)

Following that, the carmaker has revealed the India bound Cherokee, which will be the first India bound product from the alliance , Fiat-Chrysler. It is slated to be officially unveiled at the New York motor show in March, and will replace the company’s smaller SUV, the Liberty, internationally.

We would like to clarify to all our readers, that you should not confuse Cherokee with Grand Cherokee. Jeep's Grand Cherokee is a full sized SUV and Cherokee is just an entry level SUV for the Indian market and will compete with Toyota's Fortuner, Ford's Endeavour, SsangYong's Rexton and others in this segment. Cherokee will be placed beow the other two models - Grand Cherokee and Wrangler.

The new Jeep Cherokee is based on a version of Fiat’s ‘Compact Wide’ platform, which underpins the US-market Dodge Dart saloon, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the Fiat Viaggio. The platform is capable of accommodating a four-wheel-drive system, V6 engines and diesels, all of which will be available in the new Jeep. The petrol V6, which is unlikely to make it to India, will be a 3.2-litre version of Chrysler’s 3.6-litre unit.

It will also be the first Fiat-Chrysler vehicle to get a new nine-speed automatic gearbox. This transmission is said to be “the future of the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive world of Chrysler”, according to CEO Sergio Marchionne.

Kyle Larson's frightening crash into fence at 2013 Daytona race - 25 fans injured

At least 25 NASCAR fans were injured Saturday when large chunks of debris, including a tire, sailed into the grandstands when a car flew into the fence at Daytona International Speedway on a frightening last-lap accident in the second-tier Nationwide Series race.

The accident happened on the last lap of the second-tier Nationwide Series race on the eve of Sunday's Daytona 500, which officials said would go on as scheduled. Larson’s car was flipped upside-down into the fence during a frightening melee on the final lap.

Halifax Health spokesman Byron Cogdell said 12 people were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach and six others were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center of Port Orange. All were in stable condition, Cogdell said.

Lindsay Rew, a spokeswoman for Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, said its Daytona Beach hospital had one fan there who was in good condition. She said three others they had been expecting were diverted to another hospital.

No fatalities were reported at either hospital. Cogdell said two people taken to the Halifax in Daytona Beach arrived in critical condition, and one of those had life-threatening injuries, but both are considered stable. Watch the horrifying Video inside.

Here is a RTO registered version of Mahindra's Reva E2O Electric car - Launch anytime soon

As we briefed you earlier, Mahindra's upcoming electric car would be called E2O (E-two-oh) - sounds similar to two molecules of "E" (Electric) and one molecule of "O" (Oxygen), is now officially caught with Bangalore registered number. The Electric car from Mahindra will be powered by a 29KW(39.4bhp) electric motor and will use 48-volt compact lithium ion batteries. The expected price of this car should be some where around Rs 5.5 Lac.

The car could be launched any time soon, as also tweeted by Mr Anand Mahindra, a couple of days ago. The E2O will also be the first Mahindra to come out of the recently inaugurated green plant at Bangalore. Pawan Goenka, president of the automotive division, said that investing in an electric car project makes financial sense. Manufacturing an electric vehicle is cheaper than making cars with internal combustion engines and the cost of building a plant with an annual capacity of 6,000 units is not as high as that of a conventional vehicles facility. M&M has invested Rs 2,500 crore in the electric vehicle plant so far.

Mahindra's Reva E2O would be placed above its Reva-i due to its bigger size primarily and better performace ofcourse. The E2O also comes with lithium ion batteries that give this hatchback a range of 100 kilometers per full charge. The car’s top speed, at 103 Kph, is higher than that of the Reva-i. The car could be launched targeting the city hatchback lovers.

Should Ford launch Tourneo Van in India - to be displayed at Geneva Motor Show

Ford of Europe will officially unveil all the variants including the courier van of the Tourneo Custom Concept at the Geneva Motor Show. The Tourneo won't be coming to the United States, but according to Ford, it's part of the automaker's plan to refresh its entire commercial vehicle lineup by 2014.

This front-wheel-drive van is available in both short- and long-wheelbase versions (measuring in at 195.7 and 210.2 inches in overall length, respectively), and can be had in either eight- or nine-passenger configuration. Ford also touts the Tourneo's car-like interior with its "stylish, sculpted driver-focused instrument panel," as well as onboard tech like SYNC, a rear-view camera, lane-keeping assist and driver alert.

Under the hood is an updated version of Ford's 2.2-liter Duratorq inline-four, offered in 99-, 123- and 153-horsepower variants, all of which are paired exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission. There's also auto start/stop on board, meaning the Tourneo can deliver a combined fuel economy rating of 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers – about 34 miles per gallon on the U.S. cycle.

Tourneo vans would be the second one besides EcoSport that will be unveiled at Geneva Motor Show.

Bentley launches new Luxury perfume for Men

The British car-maker has launched a range of fragrances for men – including a limited edition bottle which will cost £3,000. Bentley bosses say the perfume collection captures the ‘essence’ of their powerful supercars – with hints of leather and wood rather than engine oil and unleaded.

If that won't be enough to fulfill your lust for vehicular aroma, the full line also includes after shave balm and hair and body shampoo. When they go on sale in April at select retailers, prices will start at 24 pounds (27 euro, $36 US) for the shampoo and top out at 69.50 pounds (87 euro, $106 US) for the Intense eau de parfum.

Maruti Esteem car caught fire near Krishna Nagar metro station in East Delhi - Introduction of safety regulations needed in India

A Maruti Esteem caught fire near Krishna Nagar Metro station in East Delhi. Local sources say, Kapil who was driving the Maruti Esteem from Shalimar Bagh to Krishna Nagar suddenly saw smoke coming out of the car and tried to escape but he found the doors of the car locked and did not open.

He was fortunate enough to be spotted by the Metro officials working nearby who came to rescue, broke the window of the car and Kapil was taken out of the car immediately. The fire brigade was also informed in the mean time and reached the spot immediately.

One of the metro officials cleared the road with warning all persons that there could be an explosion and thereby cleared all the traffic and transport.

He said that had the officials not spotted the car on time and evacuated its owner, it could have led to fatalities. Delhi Police officials said that five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and flames were doused. "Nobody was injured," an official said.

Just for the information of all Wheel-O-Maniacs, we have already seen lot of these cases before also - with Tata Nano catching fire, VW Vento, Maruti's Dzire and Alto and even Audi R8. To avoid such instances in future, the Indian government should introduce saferty regulations in India.

Just for an instance, all the vehicle of Nissan Motors in India including even the base variants of Micra and Sunny are equipped with a safety feature which will let you come out of the car (only from Driver's side) even in case of a mishap and even if the door's of the car are locked. To explain, this feature, while a driver is seated in the car and he locks the door using central locking - all the doors of the car gets locked and will not get opened from outside / inside even when door handle is pulled since it is locked, however only the driver's gate / door has the feature that it will never get automatically locked from inside. So, even in case of locking the door, the driver can any time open the door from inside (without being able to unlock the central locking feature).

This feature in Nissan cars at the starting seems to be not of any use - but when you see lot of the fire incidents happening in India, the feature could emerge out to be a life saver. Hats off to Japs for giving importance to safety features even in a cost conscious market like India.

But, this is the first time that the two cars were spotted together in India for the first time. The spotted variants with EcoSport in its regular Orange colored suit and Duster in its handsome black suit. The registration plate spotted at EcoSport is a Tamil Nadu one thereby signifying this being ready to be shipped, may be. It could also give good news for all EcoSport fans in India who are awaiting its launch in the country since more than an year now.

2013 Ford EcoSport compact crossover to be showcased at Geneva - India launch soon

Ford's upcoming and much awaited Compact Crossover - "EcoSport" after being launched in many South American countries like Brazil and Argentina. The car is headed for a display at Geneva Motors show and will also be very soon launched in markets like India and China. Ford's EcoSport will be launched in various countries including Europe, South East Asia, Middle East, Africa, South America and even Australia.

The car in India, would be available in both gasoline and diesel versions with 1.0L EcoBoost engine which is slated to deliver 123 bhp of power and 1.5L DV5 diesel engine. Ford's Indian factory at Chennai is going to be major export hub and will be produced at its Chennai's factory, thereby due to huge volumes, the cost of the car could be kept low.

Ford has also informed that the company is working hard on reducing the prices of the car by heavily localizing this and hence could launch the base petrol variant in the bracket of 5 lac. Honda Cars India stops production of Jazz in India

In another shocking report, Honda Cars India has now officially stopped the production of its Jazz hatchback. Similar to Honda's Civic and Accord, the car maker has stopped taking any further bookings of this car however the current orders will be fulfilled by the Indian arm of Japanese car maker.

Since the time in August 2011, the carmaker has received significant bookings of this car and the sales were almost to the levels of 700-800 per month however due to lack of Diesel engine in India the carmaker has decided to currently suspend the production of Jazz. The carmaker plans to focus more on Brio based cars and is scheduled to launch Brio Amaze, a diesel based sedan and plans to compete this with the market leader, Maruti Suzuki Dzire in this segment.

The car maker also says that it has different plans for Jazz, as it would be launching the next generation Jazz with 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine also in mid of 2014 and plans to showcase the same at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo too.

Rolls Royce Hyderabad dealership inaugurated - Chandigarh and Ahmedabad to follow soon

Rolls Royce inaugurates another dealership in India - this time in Hyderabad, thereby showing their confidence in the Indian car market. The car maker also unveils that the next plans which are in pipeline as of now are to open two more dealerships in Chandigarh and Ahmedabad respectively and take the total toll to 5 for India.

Paul Harris, Asia Pacific Regional Director, Rolls Royce, speaking at the inauguration, said “we are excited to be working with Kun Motoren as our dealer partner in a region rich with Rolls-Royce history and passion for the brand. Establishing a new retail facility will allow us to reach our customers with the same high standards available elsewhere in the country. The new showroom conforms to the brand’s latest global standards, and is both an impressive and luxurious space.
The Hyderabad showroom is 5,400 sq.ft showroom located on second floor of Kun Motoren's luxury car hub and can accomodate three display cars. Besides, display area, it has a customer lounge wherein customers can select and indulge themselves in individual customization of their Rolls Royce.

Renault to showcase Duster facelift at Geneva Auto Show in March 2013

Renault's subsidiary Dacia has announced that they will display two new models at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show in March 2013. Though, it cannot be said with a confirmation but there is a high level of probability that the French carmaker could showcase the Duster facelift.

There have been high level of probability since Renault has showcased Duster D Cross concept and there have been also news regarding facelifted Duster to be launched in 2014. Duster was first launched in year 2008 and since that time, the carmaker has managed to sell 400,000 units of this car across the globe. Four years after the launch, could be a good time for any carmaker to have a mid life facelift and again boost the sales for a particular model.

In India alone, in 10 months, Duster has registered a Sales of 30,000 units approximately which makes it a success story in India. Therefore, in case there is any facelift coming to the global market for Duster, Indian market will surely be considered for the same, however it could take time for Indian launch since its not even an year that Duster is launched in India and its still some time for the carmaker to announce a mid-life facelift.

Spied - Jeep's Grand Cherokee and Wrangler spotted testing in Pune

Fiat India officially announced their plans to launch SUV's from its global brand Jeep in India and unveiled their future roadmap via a formal conference.

Since then, various SUV's and Jeep's have been spotted testing around in and around Pune. As far as start of launching vehicles is concerned, the first ones to be launched includes a Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler.

The SUV's will be launched in both petrol and diesel variants in India. Grand Cherokee will be powered by a 3.6L petrol engine and 3.0L Diesel motor, whereas Wrangler is expected to be powered by 3.6L petrol engine and a smaller 2.8L Diesel engine.

Suzuki SX4 Crossover - Evolution and Evolution+ variants launched in Italy

Maruti Suzuki in India is currently busy in re-launching their SX4 which is not at all getting any response from the market. The company plans to launch refurbished SX4 by end of this year and also plans to launch SX4 crossover by end of 2014.

However, the Japanese car maker, Suzuki has recently launched two variants of SX4 Crossover - christened as Evolution and Evolution+ the new special variants of the crossover are based on the GL and GLX trim levels respectively.

The Evolution edition gets more equipment in the form of leather wrapped steering wheel, dual tone fabrics, a multimedia infotainment system with 5” touchscreen display and Bluetooth connectivity and a sat- nav system. The Evolution+ gets all the features of Evolution along with rear power windows, automatic climate control and cruise control.

The Suzuki SX4 Evolution and Evolution+ special editions come with two engine options- a 1.6-litre VVT petrol engine mated to an all wheel drive system and a Fiat sourced 2.0 litre DDIS diesel engine.

Hyundai India unleashes a Special edition itech i10 variant to celebrate Car's Global success

Hyundai's i10 has crossed a figures of global sales of 1.2 million vehicles and the Korean carmaker has decided to celebrate the moment along with all its customers worldwide and has launched a special edition iTech i10 variant. The special edition variant will be available only in 1.1 Era and 1.2L Magna variants.

The new features in the car includes -

  • Sporty Red Interiors - on Dashboard, Door trims and AC vents
  • Red and Beige colored upholstery seats
  • Rear view parking camera
  • iTech body graphics
  • Steering mounted Bluetooth control

Tata Motors launches two millionth truck in India from its Jamshedpur factory

Tata Motors recently celebrated the milestone of launch two millionth truck from its Jamshedpur manufacturing facility. The manufacturing facility at Jamshedpur is one of the oldest factory built in 1945, even before our country gained independence.

The images also reveal that milestone truck, two millionth truck is a Yellow colored Prima truck which is a very advanced variant of truck across Tata's line-up. Tata Motors manufactures 200 different variants of Trucks, trailers, tippers, cargo, mixers etc. Also, it is worth noting that Tata Motors has a capacity to manufacture a truck every 5 minutes and could also produce 200 engines in a day.

Ford targets to price entry level petrol variant of EcoSport in Rs 5 Lac bracket

Ford India is in news since January 2012 , last year when the Auto Expo took place and lot of crowd gathered to see the Ford's new Compact SUV - EcoSport. The carmaker was schdeuled to launch the vehicle in January 2013 whereas the vehicle launch seems to be delayed by over two months now.

It has come from sources that Ford India is agressively working on localising the components of EcoSport and is planning to launch the entry level petrol variant in the Rs 5 Lac bracket - this could also mean, the car could be launched at introductory price of Rs 5.49 Lac or even Rs 5.99 Lac. While the later seems to be more realistic, we will have to still wait for the official launch to happen to say more about the prices of modern looking Compact SUV from EcoSport.

Ford has already launched EcoSport in Brazil and has received a good response in the market - infact with recent information, Ford's EcoSport has outsold Renault's Duster in Brazil.  Ford's EcoSport is expected to launch with three engine options - 1.0L Ecoboost petrol engine, which has also received International Engine of the year award., 1.5L DV5 Diesel engine, which will be powred in New Fiesta and 1.5L petrol engine. It is also in news that car maker could initially launch only first two engine options with 1.5L Petrol engine option launch scheduled later.

The launch is expected to happen in early March 2013. Nevetheless, the carmaker will start the production of the car at its Chennai manufacturing facility by March end and the car would be delivered to its respective buyers in India by April end for select variants and May end for other variants. Escorts launches high end Ferrari tractors at Rs 8 Lac in India

Escorts has entered into a collboration with an Italian firm BCS S.p.a. to distribute and sell the speciality Ferrari brand of tractors in India. The first product being launched under the partnership is a 26 HP model that has four equal-sized wheels, an all-time 4-wheel drive and oscillating chassis system suited for use in vineyards and orchards. Initially to be available at select dealerships in Maharashtra, the tractor, which comes at an introductory price of Rs 8 lakh, will be extended for sales across the country, Nikhil Nanda, Joint MD, Escorts said.

The company today also launched a new product in the Farmtrac executive series of premium range tractors launched in April last year. Escorts will initially import the Ferrari tractors from Italy and marketing them through its distribution channels. “As volumes grow, we will take action to make the machines cost competitive and the level of engagement will change,” Nanda said, adding that assembling them locally could also be undertaken in the future. The new 45, 50 and 60 HP tractor series with a price tag of Rs 6.5 lakh, Rs 6.9 lakh and Rs 7.4 lakh, respectively are packed with stunning looks and a car-like driving comfort, he said.

The 26 HP Ferrari model, imported through the completely built unit rout from Italy, will carry an introductory sticker price of Rs 8 lakh while it sells at Rs 12 lakh in European market. “This entry-level Ferrari brand was tested for over six months from last June among 200 grape growing farmers in Nashik district in Maharashtra,” S Sridhar, chief executive officer at Escorts Agri Machinery, said.

He said the new tractor will be sold under Ferrari brand brought to India by Escorts.

“Ferrari brings with it new tractor technologies which India has never seen before,” Benso Marelli, managing director at BCS, said. “We are testing the India waters and as and when the volumes build up, we will join hands with Escorts to launch a factory in India,” he said. He said the Italian company, with 60 years of experience in high-quality production, world-class design and precision technologies, had a range of high-end, superior tractors up to 91 HP.
