We had earlier reported that Hyundai is working on i20 based compact sedan however as per Mr. Ümit Karaarsalan, chairman of Hyundai Assan (joint venture between Hyundai and Turkey’s Kibar Holding), the company is planning to work upon a compact sedan based out of i10 since i20 already being the highest priced among its competitors. The production will start at Izmit plant in Turkey for new generation i10 sedan and hatchback.
Mr. Ümit Karaarsalan speaking to Hurriyet Daily said -
We will begin to produce new and bigger versions of the i10, which will be set between the i10 and i20. As part of the same platform we can easily produce a sedan, so as soon as we release the other model we will begin to work on sedan production.
If the media reports are to be believed, the next generation i10 hatchback will be unveiled during upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013. India being an important market where volumes of i10 hathback touch almost 10,000 a month will not wait and will immediately launch the next generation i10 hatch. As per the sources, the company also plans to launch the i10 diesel variant during the same time.
The Izmit plant may look after the demand from the European markets while the Chennai plant may produce for the Asia Pacific and African regions.
