Audi R8 catches fire in Mumbai - Images & Video

An Audi R8 car caught fire on the Bandra-Worli sea link today. The recently introduced model of Audi, which also features in the latest Bollywood movie " Race 2", costs around Rs 1.80 crore and is among the premium products of the German car manufacturer available in India.

According to police and fire brigade, the cause of the fire was not clear and it was extinguished shortly after it started. Though there were no casualties in the incident, the northern land side of the sea link was jammed for nearly two hours before traffic was permitted to cross the bridge.

The fire we believe was caused due to aftermarket modifications. Cars like the Audi R8 are complex high tech machines and any mods carried out need to be done by component and experienced professionals.

The incident happened during the prestigious two-day Fifth Mumbai Parx Supercar Show-2013 in which over a hundred of the most expensive cars used by top Mumbaikars took part.

Gautam Singhania, Founder and Chairman of the Supercar club of India, who too was a part of the Rally, addressed the media stating that the car did not belong to their club. He added that the Audi R8, in the picture here, raced at a very fast speed and overtake their cars who participated in the Rally. In doing so, the Audi R8 caught fire. Being an experienced supercar driver, Gautam was asked, what could be the reason behind the fire that engulfed Audi R8. To this he replied that the manufacturer will be able to give a better answer. He later tweeted. “Today had a unique opportunity to save an unknown hapless driver out of an Audi R8 which caught fire on Sea Link, along with my SCC members.”
