November 2012 Indian market Car Sales / Model wise Sales

The Indian Automobile Industry had been going through lot of pessimism from the starting of this year itself where there has been an increase in fuel prices including the Diesel prices which have barely increased ever - Rs 5 hike for Diesel during September 2012, no relief in interest rates and increasing costs for automakers thereby pushing them to hike the car prices.

August 2012 has been the worst month so far where the Passenger vehicle sales dropped for first time in year by 4.1%. Heavy Commercial vehicle sales till date have been dropping and it is to be believed that whenever you have a downturn in automobile industry or even whole economy, it is first viewed by Heavy Commercial Vehicles -  since these vehicles provide an indication as to whether there is a need of logistics / has it been dropping / increasing ? This is the first indication of downturn since Heavy commercial vehicles get an impact very fast. Below appended are some of points from November 2012 sales figures.

1. The overall Passenger vehicle market grew by just 2% in Nov '12 when compared to Nov '11
2. The overall Passenger vehicle market dropped by 8% in Nov '12 when compared to Oct '12
3. The only relief is YTD growth (Jan-Nov) is seen at 8.5% when compared to same period last year.
4. None of the automobile manufacture registered the highest sales in November. Last month Maruti, M&M, VW, Renault & Hyundai registered the highest sales since April 2012- None for this month
5. On the other hand - Toyota, Skoda, Ford & Fiat registered the Lowest ever monthly sales in November 2012 when compared for all months starting from January 2012.
6. GM could not make a huge impact with the launch of Chevrolet sail U-VA in India - just 1,595 units. Remember, Sail U-VA is the second largest selling car in China - the biggest automobile market till date.
7. For Fiat, seems like it the end of the era - with the lowest ever Sales, only God can save them now. Fiat will announce their future plans on 6th Dec 2012
8. Figo accounts for 80% of Ford's sales. Ford will end year with 87K sales in Jan-Dec. Expect figures to increase to 125K in next year. EcoSport launch awaited.
9. Honda Sales again dropped - City just 1200 units even after launching City CNG.
10. Hyundai seems to have understood customers well. In list of top 10 models by Sales, Hyundai has 3 out of 10 - with i10, Eon and i20.
11. Mahindra still ahead of Tata's - seems there is a huge fight to be at No. 3 - SsangYong Rexton registered 121 units whereas Quanto still has 2,300 units.
12. Maruti sales have been on higher side - ofcourse being lower than just October. Alto seems to be accepted by Indian market with 24K units sold in one month. Ertiga crosses Innova continuously for 5 months now. Swift is back in demand with 17K units and Dzire's huge waiting is still keeping sales low.
13. Toyota seems to have lowest sales figure in 2012 with their market leader getting a huge hit. Etios - sedan & hatchback combinedly could not register huge volumes.
14. Nissan still has low volumes - despite of having two good products in market - Micra & Sunny. Reason being the ongoing scuffle between the dealers and their marketing agency.
15. Skoda and VW still have a perception of higher after sales costs and spare parts non-availability.
