Hyundai to launch i20 based Compact sedan by end of 2013

Hyundai Motors India Limited earlier grabbed a big amount of hatchback market along with sedan market. Later, Hyundai also wanted to put its foot into Maruti's territory by launching a small car and thereby launch Eon and is thereby expanding its wings.

Hyundai now wants to enter into the rapidly growing Compact sedan segment and wants to grab a pie out of it. Since, Maruti Swift launched Dzire and is now selling the car at more than 10,000 volumes per month, all other carmakers too wanted to grab this opportunity and launched their compact sedans.

We are yet to see three new launches in Compact sedan segment in 2013 however yet another fourth one could be launched here - i20 based Compact sedan. Yes, Hyundai could not roll out a compact sedan out of its i20 hatchback and could place it among Dzire, Brio Amaze and Verito.

Hyundai i20 is currently the hot selling hatch in India due to its variety of offering of features in India, i20 based Dzire sedan could further add to the popularity. However, the company has ruled out any possibility of stopping the production of Accent in India until 2016 since it is into huge demand in Algeria.

Since, the price of i20 hatchback is already highest among all other hatchbacks, we expect i20 based sedan to be priced marginally higher than its hatch version. Since, it would be manufactured on similar existing i20 platform - expect it to be priced marginally 25-40K pricier than hatchback. However, we will await an official announcement from Hyundai India about more details.

Featuring the frame and design of its smaller twin, it will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. An i20 with an integrated boot, it will probably be a sub 4-metre car packed with features, expected to replace the Accent.
