Maruti Suzuki India, the market leader in small car segment is now cementing its position in other segments as well. The Indian car maker, though far behind the market leader in UV segment, M&M , has still achieved the second spot in the UV segment - all thanks to launch of Ertiga.
With the launch of Ertiga MPV in India, the car maker has created a special segment and has never looked behind since then. In fact, the the company is so overwhelmed with its demand, that it is not able to plug the demand-supply gap of the car despite running the line at its full capacity.
If we closely monitor the Sales of cars in September and October, Ertiga sold well ahead of its rival, Toyota Innova. The demand of Ertiga has been increasing ever since its launch in April 2012. Due to launch of Ertiga, obviously there has been a dent in sales of M&M too, and its market share has decreased from previous year's 56% to this year's 47%.
Maruti’s market share stands at 15.4% against last year’s 2.1%. During the same period, Toyota’s share declined marginally (by 0.5%) and is at 17.5%. Renault India is at number fourth position due to robust sales of its recently launched SUV - Duster.
Mr. Mayank Pareek, chief operating officer (sales & marketing), Maruti Suzuki told Financial Chronicle that the company is hoping to “take the UV story beyond Ertiga in coming times”, hinting at the mini SUV based on the XA Alpha concept showcased at this year’s Delhi Auto Expo 2012.
