Hyundai Motors India Limited has been hit following a strike by workers handling logistics operations. The logistics operations has been outsourced but permanent workers represented by the Hyundai Motor India Employees Union (HMIEU) are "not cooperating" in production to express solidarity with the logistics workers.
The union is urging the Hyundai management to settle the issue according to R. Sridhar, General Secretary, HMIEU. If the issue is not resolved, the union will launch an agitation he said. The logistics workers have submitted a charter of 41 demands including a wage hike. As of now work has slowed down in the body shop which has impacted production in factory in Sriperumbudur, about 25 km west of Chennai, on the Bangalore highway.
It is India's second largest car plant with an annual production capacity of 6.3 lakh cars. It makes a range of passenger cars including the Eon, i10, i20 and the Santro.
