Official - Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 will be launched in India on 11th October 2012

After a huge wait, finally the launch date of Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 in here and this dream of many will arrive in the Indian market on the 11th of October 2012. The 500cc version of the Thunderbird was first unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo.

The Thunderbird 500 will feature a twin spark, single cylinder engine. The Unit Construction Engine(UCE) engine that displaces 499cc is the biggest single cylinder engine to power a motorcycle in the Indian motorcycle market this side of the CBU imports. The engine is air cooled and is best known for the prodigious amount of torque it generates, which at 41.3 Nm is also the highest amount of torque generated by a made-in-India motorcycle. The engine puts out 27.2 Bhp of peak power but then again, its the torque that talks the loudest when it comes to Royal Enfields. The Thunderbird 500′s engine will be mated to five speed manual gearbox while the engine will feature fuel injection as standard.

Royal Enfield has also given the Thunderbird 500 an all new instrument cluster with a digital readout for odometer, trip meter and fuel meter. The Thunderbird 500 will be available in three shades of black – midnight black, artic winter black and matte black metallic. Although prices are yet to be announced, one can safely expect the Thunderbird 500 to be the costliest vehicle in the company’s line-up, with our estimates pointing to a Rs. 1.75 lakh price tag. Dealers are now accepting bookings for the higher capacity Thunderbird.

Stay tuned for more information on Thunderbird 500 on 11th October 2012.
