Bajaj Discover ovetakes Hero's Splendor in Sales, becomes World's largest selling motorcycle

Bajaj Auto today claimed that its low end motorcycle Discover has now overtaken Hero's Splendor in monthly sales of September and has now become the largest selling motorcycle in the world.

The Pune based bike maker launched the Discover in 2004 with the intention of replacing Splendor as the largest selling bike and was able to do this in September 2012. The Pune based bike maker was able to sell 122,968 units in September 2012 including exports as against 121,018 units of Splendor in the same month, Bajaj Auto president for motorcycle business K Srinivas told.

Citing monthly data disclosed by the fierce competitors, Srinivas said the Splendor's monthly sales have come off from the May 2012 peak of 2,53,149 units to the current stage, and claimed that the Discover's positioning and strategies can be a reason for the same.

Bajaj has set a target of 1,30,000 Discover sales in October and 1,40,000 in November in the domestic market, along with exporting up to 20,000 units in each month, Srinivas said.

Meanwhile, the news is also around the corner that Bajaj is also planning to launch a refreshed variant of Discover 100 in December 2012, thereby placing it even a more attractive bet for its prospective buyers.
