2013 Skoda Roomster Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) - Launch in India in early 2013

Skoda India is pretty happy with the response from the Indian market. Their latest offering - Skoda Rapid clocked more than 18,000 units in current year - YTD 2012. The car maker recently also introduced new variants "Active plus" and "Ambition plus" and are offering different schemes on festive season, makes us believe their seriousness of the Indian market.

Skoda group in general has plans to become number 1 auto manufacturer in world by 2018 and Asia for them to achieve this growth is an unavoidable market, India being the second fastest growing market in Asia, could not be overlooked.

Skoda thus has plans to launch Multi Utility Vehicle in India, MUV which would give competition to Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Nissan Evalia and Renault Duster to name a few. This Multi-Purpose Vehicle has an intelligent consumer-focused design which the manufacturer claims is surprisingly good to drive, reinforcing a feel-good factor. Skoda could launch this vehicle pretty competitive and the starting price for this MUV could be around Rs 8 Lac. We have always seen that Skoda, because of its high pricing strategy has not been able to enter/capture the mass market in India and thus the result in front of us - Skoda Yeti being the live example. However, Skoda India has now started efforts on eradicating this myth in mind of consumers and even has started to localization of parts and thus make after sales service affordable to consumers.

Considering this fact, Skoda could price this MUV, to be launched in early 2013, in a reasonable price bracket starting from Rs 8 Lac and thus make it pretty competitive for the already present players in India.

The cabin design of Skoda Roomster is not at all confusing - which means is pretty simple yet stylish. The cabin has neat storage ideas like the elasticated straps that run across the top of the door bins to secure maps. Space is a big plus point of the Roomster and the rear consists of two outer chairs that can both slide and recline. There is enough leg and headroom and the middle seat can be removed to slide the two outer seats inwards to increase shoulder room. However, there are still no clues on whether Skoda would make it a three row vehicle or would provide jump seats as an accessory or would just launch it as a spacious & comfortable 5 seater vehicle.
