Isuzu to launch huge SUV - MU7 for Indian market - spotted testing

Isuzu was recently in news for its plans to invest Rs 1,000 Crores in India to open its manufacturing facility in India. The plant was supposed to manufacture LCV's to compete with Tata Ace and others present in the market, but Isuzu did not disclose the news of launching its massive SUV - MU7, which was seen testing in Pune, just days before.

Isuzu MU7 will be powered by a 3.0L turbo-diesel mill which belts out 146bhp of power and 294Nm of torque. MU7 is already in sale in various South Asian countries and looks like the same will be sourced from an Asian country till the time full fledged manufacturing starts in India. Isuzu is also expected to add its DMAX Pick-up to Indian portfolio soon.

Nissan Sunny Automatic variant caught testing for India - Launch soon

Nissan Motors India is expected to launch the Automatic variant of its sedan "Sunny" in India. The car was seen testing with all the covered badges however there was no other change in the outlook of the car, thereby proving the fact that the car maker would not launch any facelift of the car.

Just that the badges were covered with a black tape means that the Japanese car maker intends to launch another variant of its existing selling car. Renault Scala is also expected to launch sporting an Automatic variant in December 2013, however no official confirmation regarding the same has been given by the company.

Apart from the regular ‘SUNNY’ decal at the left, ‘NISSAN’ logo at the center and the trim name at the right, we have an additional badge just beside the number plate at the right; Expectedly an “Auto” badge.

If the car maker happens to launch the automatic for both petrol and diesel and expect the prices within a reasonable range, we expect it to certainly add to the monthly numbers of Nissan Motors and will certainly contribute to the market share in India.

Hyundai Motor India hikes prices of its cars by Rs 5,000 from November 2012

Hyundai Motors India Limited unit will increase the prices of all its models by up to 5,000 rupees from 1 November, the company said in a statement, citing a rise in input costs.

"The price increase has been necessitated by a variety of input costs," HMIL Vice-President (National Sales and Marketing) Rakesh Srivastava said in a statement.
HMIL sells a range of models, from entry level Eon with price starting at Rs 2.75 lakh to premium sports utility vehicles tagged up to Rs 25.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
"The price increase would be up to Rs 5,000 across models and would come into effect from November 1, 2012," the company said.

Other car makers have already increased prices of their vehicles. Earlier this month, General Motors India announced hike in prices of its entire range of models by Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000 depending upon the various models to minimise the impact of adverse currency movement and high input costs.
Maruti Suzuki, Honda Cars, Renault and Audi have also raised the prices of their vehicles to offset adverse impact of foreign exchange fluctuation and rising input costs.

Nissan Duster based SUV confirmed for India - code named NH79

Nissan Motors India, better known as NMI has confirmed the production of Duster based SUV for the Indian market. As we all know, Renault-Nissan India was a collaboration to make similar platform products under different badge and separate prices. The partnership is now well known in India for badge engineering as the duo together have made several products. say Renault's Pulse based on Nissan's Micra platform and Renault Scala based on Nissan Sunny.

The collaboration in India will now extend its portfolio where in Nissan Motors will work on launch of product based on Duster SUV which is code named NH79. The car maker though did not confirmed the launch of this vehicle, however if all goes well and by the past trend of sharing platforms, the Japanese car maker should launch this SUV by end of 2013.

Mr. Colin Dodge, Nissan’s executive vice-president while speaking to Autocar said that Nissan’s version of the Duster will go beyond badge engineering. “We’ve got quite a differentiated car and the differences are far more significant than on the V-platform products (Micra/Pulse and Sunny/Scala). The hood and the fenders have differences and the bumpers are different too. But it’s more than just a bumpers and grille change for sure,” said Dodge.

According to sources, Renault could delay the sharing of the Duster with Nissan until 2014, as this SUV is seen as the ticket to building Renault’s brand presence in India. Renault sold over 4,000 Dusters in September and sales are likely to further increase going into the festive season.

Petrol and Diesel prices hiked by 29 paise and 20 paise on dealer commission hike

Petrol price was today hiked by 29 paise per litre and diesel by 20 paise after government decided to increase commission paid to petrol pump dealers. 

Petrol in Delhi from today costs Rs 68.19 per litre as against Rs 67.90 previously. Similarly, diesel rates have been hiked to Rs 47.15 per litre from Rs 46.95, industry sources said. 

Rates will vary in states due to differential in local sales tax or VAT rates. 

Petrol price hike varies from 29 paise to 37 paise (in Bangalore), while diesel rates vary from 20 paise to 24 paise a litre. 

The Petroleum Ministry late last night issued orders increasing the dealers commission on petrol from Rs 1.49 per litre to Rs 1.78 a litre. The same on diesel has been hiked by 17.7 paise -- from 91 paise to Rs 1.08. After taking into account the incidence on VAT, the hike in diesel comes to 20 paise, sources said. 

Sources said the decision to hike dealers commission was taken on Thursday but orders were issued only last night. 

The increase in dealers commission is first since July 2011. During that period, the commission was hiked by 28 paise on petrol and by 15.5 paise on diesel. 

Federation of All India Petroleum Traders General Secretary Ajay Bansal said the hike falls short of their demand for 67 paise increase in commission on petrol and 42 paise on diesel considering steep hike in operating cost of a petrol pump. 

"Few of our operating costs like running pumps on generators, free services (like air and water) and increase in evaporation, seem to have not been taken into account while calculating the proposed commission," Bansal said. 

The Ministry, he said, has assured to look into these in two months time. 

The government had earlier this month hiked commission paid to LPG distributors by Rs 11.42 per cylinder. Subsidised LPG in Delhi now costs Rs 410.42 per cylinder, up from Rs 399. 

The commission paid to LPG dealers increased from Rs 25.83 per 14.2-kg cylinder to Rs 37.25 with effect from October 7.

Volkswagen outsells General Motors in China for first time

Volkswagen, as you would already know has chalked out plans to be the largest auto maker world wide in 2018.  The car maker aims to beat Toyota, which is currently the largest auto maker in the world and General Motors, which is the second largest automobile player in the world, as per 2010 statistics.

Fate seems to be along with VW, while it aims to be number one. China, the world's largest market for automobile, is where the growth story lies for all the automobile players, and similar is the case for VW, Toyota and General Motors. As you would know, Chinese people are already on a protest wherein they would not purchase a Japanese car owing to which the sales of Japanese cars in China have been on a low and the Japanese car makers have reduced the production of cars at their Chinese plants. Good for Volkswagen, as its biggest rival Toyota will again be on the low after last year's disaster at Japan. 

General Motors, wherein the analysts believe have old models in China, is again favoring the German based car maker, Volkswagen. VW, for the first time in China is reported to have crossed the sales for this quarter, higher than General Motors, which is the ace brand in China.

Volkswagen's sales in China, its largest marker, increased by 21 percent last quarter to 704,991 units compared to GM's sales of 664,765 vehicles in this quarter. However, if we year to date figure, GM is still ahead of its German rival by 77,000 units.

Breaking : Honda Brio Diesel sedan revealed - First Honda Diesel car for India

Honda Brio Diesel sedan is now fully revealed. As you could see from the image itself, it would not have been so difficult for Honda Motors to finalize the design of their entry level sedan for Indian market, which would be placed between Honda Brio hatchback and Honda City sedan. as you could see, the rear sports a sporty chrome finished strip similar to earlier Swift Dzire, the current one has a full body rear chrome strip.

The car would be the first Diesel sedan from Honda's stable to be launched for Indian market. The car would be officially unveiled in flesh during April 2013. The Brio sedan will be powered by the 1.2 liter VTEC petrol motor. Honda is currently working on two diesel motors - 1.2L Diesel engine, which would be powered in Brio sedan and later onto Jazz hatchback. The 1.5L Diesel motor will be powered in its City sedan but the official confirmation of launch date has still not been revealed, we expect it to be end of 2013. It is being said that the sharp minds at Honda are currently perfecting a 3-cylinder 1.2 liter turbo diesel engine with about 80PS of power and 200Nm of torque for the Brio Sedan. Honda would launch Brio sedan in Thailand first which will be followed by India sometime around April 2013.

Honda CBR 500 - Clear images and full details including Specifications revealed

You could easily see through the images the three motorcycles - CBR 500, CB 500, CB 500X of which the CBR500 will be a mini-me version of the CBR1000RR, the CB500 that of the CB1000R and the CB500X will mimic the recently introduced NC700X.

All three motorcycles are said to be aimed at the entry level motorcycle buyers in developed and developing markets. The 500cc twin cylinder engine is essentially 2 CBR250R cylinders arranged in a parallel twin layout. So, expect the 76X55 mm bore and stroke layout to be carried over to the 500cc engine as well. Incidentally, this short stroke engine layout has its origins in the top of the line CBR1000RR sportsbike, which also features the same bore-stroke size. Hyundai i20 Sportz and Asta variants gets day time running LED lights

Hyundai i20 was the first amongst its segment to provide some of the unique features like Rain sensing wipers, Rear view camera on its top variant and Rear view sensors of mid variants. The other features of Hyundai i20 include Automatic folding outside mirrors, auto start-stop button, Automatic climate control a/c with 2 DIN Music system. The features make this car one of the top list when it comes to buying a premium hatchback. The Korea based car maker is now also reported to be including the Day time running LED strip just below its fog lamps in its Sportz and Asta variants - which again makes this car the first amongst the segment to sport these in a hatchback.

The i20 Fluidic gets three engines, two petrol units and one turbo diesel motor for the car buyer to choose from. The petrol engines are 1.2 Liter and 1.4 Liter units producing 83 Bhp-116 Nm and 99 Bhp-139 Nm respectively. The 1.4 Liter turbo diesel motor is the pick of the lot with power and torque outputs of 90 Bhp and 224 Nm.

While the diesel engined i20 gets a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard, the 1.2 Liter petrol engine get a 5 speed manual gearbox. The bigger 1.4 liter petrol engine gets a 4 speed automatic gearbox and is available only in Sportz trim. The bigger story around the Hyundai i20 Fluidic involves the class topping features that this hatchback comes with. Stuff like rain sensing wipers, 6 airbags, automatic headlamps and the 6 speed manual gearbox on the diesel model are all class leading features, making the i20 a loaded car indeed.

BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe spotted in New Delhi

A BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe was recently spotted testing on streets of Delhi and the variant that has been caught testing is the 640d which is powered by a 313 bhp, 3.0 litre diesel engine. The range topping 407bhp 650i is also expected to make it to our shores. The car is expected to be launched against the Audi's existing A7.

BMW has a viable A7 competitor in the form of the 6 Series Gran Coupe and it seems the Bavarian outfit is all set to bring this 4-door coupe to India. The Gran Coupe which was being driven in Delhi with trade certificate plates suggests just that.

Michael Boneham, MD of Ford India to retire in December 2012, Mr. Joginder Singh to take over

Ford Motor Company, on Thursday announced that Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director, Ford India has elected to retire effective December 31, 2012 after a successful career spanning over 27 years. He will be succeeded by Joginder Singh as the President and Managing Director effective December 1, 2012.

Boneham, who commenced his career in Human Resource in Ford Australia, has worked in manufacturing and general management roles in Europe, North America and APA. In India, he started as the executive director, Manufacturing of Ford's facility in Chennai, before moving on to lead the organization as president and managing director, Ford India.

"Michael's contributions to our business in Asia has been significant, specifically his leadership of the India market. Building the foundation blocks of Ford's transition to a mass player, leading the launch of the game-changing Ford Figo and his role in securing the US$ 1 billion investment for our second new integrated manufacturing facility at Sanand helped us significantly transform our operations in India," said Joe Hinrichs.

"His strategic direction over the past few years has better positioned our India operations for continued future success. We truly appreciate Michael's contribution to Ford Motor Company and wish him and his family all the very best!"

Singh will take over Boneham's responsibilities of managing and growing the integrated manufacturing operation of Ford India. Singh in his new role will also lead the charge of product programs of bringing in 8 new products by mid-decade and oversee the successful implementation of Ford's expansion plans in India, through its operations in Chennai and its second upcoming facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

Petrol to be costlier by 30 paise and Diesel by 18 paise in Delhi soon

Petrol prices and Diesel prices will be costlier in Delhi  by 30 paise and 18 paise respectively as the oil ministry has agreed to raise dealers' commission, Federation of All India Petroleum Traders General Secretary Ajay Bansal said.

After the hike, petrol will cost Rs 68.2 a litre and diesel Rs 47.13 per litre in Delhi. The oil ministry is yet to announce its decision of raising dealers' commission, which will raise pump prices of auto fuels. New rates would be applicable only after a formal announcement by the ministry.

"We demanded the government to increase out commission on petrol by 67 paise and diesel by 42 paise because the oil ministry did not factor in fuel evaporation, free services to customers and and running pumps on gensets in case of electricity failure," Bansal said. Currently, dealers get a commission of Rs 1.5 per litre on petrol and Rs 91 paise on diesel.

Yamuna Expressway, DND flyway to be toll-free for Formula 1 final day

Yamuna Expressway and DND Flyway will be toll-free on Sunday, the final day of Formula one racing event. 

"Vodafone has tied up with Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) flyway authorities to make the flyway toll-free on the final day of the event on October 28 (Sunday), Yamuna Expressway project spokesman Anwar Abbasi said today. 

Toll-free timings would be from 8am to 10 pm, Anwar Abbasi, spokesperson said today adding toll-free movement would be available only through Noida toll plazas. 

Commuters from Agra, Mathura and Noida will get signal- free and toll-free movement and they will be able to reach Buddh International Circuit to watch the Formula one car racing final, the Yamuna Expressway spokesperson said. 

Mayur Vihar Toll Plaza will not be free, said Abbasi. Last year during the final day of the Formula one event, the traffic volume on DND was around 75,000 vehicles, he said. 

Regarding average daily traffic volume on DND, Abbasi said from both the toll plazas on week days on an average the daily traffic volume is around 1.15 lakh vehicles and non-week ends average is around 80,000 vehicles. 

Only 20 percent of the traffic volume is from Mayur Vihar toll plaza while a major part of 80 percent is from Noida toll plaza. 

Abbasi said that "to regulate traffic in the event of free flow of traffic, we have arranged additional staff to prevent jams".

Comedian Jaspal Bhatti died in a Car accident in Jalandhar

Film actor and comedian Jaspal Bhatti, died in a road accident on Thursday morning near Jalandhar. hatti along with his son Jasraj who was on the wheel, and two others including the actress, Surilie Gautam and Bhatti's media advisor Navneet was coming to Jalandhar from Bathinda for the promotion of his new film 'Power Cut' when the car hit a tree on the roadside.

Bhatti was sitting in the rear seat of the car and received serious head injuries. The accident took place near the truck union on the outskirts of Shahkot. "It is a blind turn. Either Jasraj had a nap or could not notice the turn and the car hit the tree," said Shahkot DSP M S Bhullar.

"Bhatti and the three injured were rushed to Orthonova Hospital in Jalandhar immediately in an ambulance and Bhatti died on the way," Bhullar said. "Had it not been quick shifting, Navneet's life would also have been danger as he was also sinking," he added.

Bhatti in his typical style had taken the star cast of his film to the power plant Bathinda to pay obeisance there. The hero of the film is named Current and the heroine Bijli. After finishing the promotion work in Batinda they were coming to Jalandhar where they were scheduled to interact with the media in Jalandhar at 12.30pm in the afternoon on Thursday. The media in Jalandhar had already been sent messages in typical Bhatti style as it read "Pirated music launch scoop by Jaspal Bhatti of his new movie Power Cut....".

Jaspal Bhatti's body has been shifted to Civil Hospital Jalandhar for post mortem. Born on March 3, 1955 at Amritsar, Bhatti graduated from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh as an electrical engineer.

Bhatti leaves behind his wife Savita, a son and a daughter.

Hyundai announces small capacity Turbo petrol engines to counter Ford's 1.0L Ecoboost engine

Hyundai Motor Company has showcased an array of next generation hi-tech engines at the ’12th Hyundai Motor Group international power train conference’ in South Korea.

The trend of small capacity Turbo petrol engine was catching up very fast in Europe, wherein VW and even Renault had their small turbocharged Petrol engines. While, Renault has its TCE90 Motor, which is a 3 cylinder 900 cc engine whereas Volkswagen also displayed its 1.0L 3 cylinder turbocharged motor during the Sao Paulo Motor Show at Brazil, which was displayed at its Compact SUV Taigun. Ford too displayed its silent 1.0L EcoBoost engine which will deliver 120 bhp of power and will be equipped firstly in its upcoming Compact SUV for India and Chinese market. The Ford EcoSport will be launched in India in January 2013 and will followed by Chinese market. The compact SUV has already been launched in Brazil and Argentina.

The South Koreans and Japanese have however been very quiet on development of small turbocharged motor, but recently South Korean manufacturer, Hyundai too displayed its small turbocharged 1.0L Petrol motor which will deliver 105 bhp of power and 137 N-m of torque.

Hyundai also showcased a 1.1 litre diesel engine based on the U2 family (used on the Hyundai i20 in the UK) and a 2.0 litre R series diesel. The 1.1 litre diesel is important for India as it’ll be powering the next gen Hyundai i10 which had already started its testing phase in India. 

Chevrolet India starts talking about Sail U-VA - Video

Chevrolet India just launched the entry level car, Spark and is now gearing up for a bigger launch - Sail U-VA on 02nd November 2012. The Sail U-VA would be launched in two engine variants - 1.2L petrol engine delivering 85 bhp and other 1.3L diesel engine delivering 77 bhp. The hatchback will be available in 4 variants they are PS, LS, LT and LT (O). The top end variant will have alloy wheels, ABS and airbags.

The car was spotted testing on India roads a long before, view more details here. The hatchback was designed and developed by the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre (PATAC) which is jointly managed by GM and SAIC. As per the sources, the car was launched in China in January 2010 and became an instant hit due to its space, specifications and an excellent fuel economy among its peers in its class. Since, the car is selling around 25,000 units per month in China apart from exports to Latin America and other countries.

Chevrolet Spark facelift launched in India at starting price of Rs 3.16 Lac

Chevrolet India will be launching the new spark facelift just a couple of hours from now. The new car was already unveiled on the web, and the company has already started accepting the bookings of the new car. The car has been restyled with visual changes both on outside of the car and inside of the car to make it more appealing than the new Maruti Suzuki Alto, its immediate competitor.

The Chevrolet Spark facelift is seen sporting a new front fascia with a new and wider grille that , revised headlamps, new fog lamps and a new front bumper. Rear too gets a revised boot lid, new tail lamp motif and a revised rear bumper. The Spark also gets revamped interiors with new seat upholstery and door pads. The updated car also sports a new instrument cluster which seems to be a desperate attempt to look new age.

The Spark is powered by a 1 Liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 63 Bhp-90 Nm. This engine delivers an ARAI certified fuel economy of 18 Kmpl, which is much lesser than both the Maruti Alto 800 as well as the Hyundai Eon, which both deliver over 22 Kmpl. Mahindra's Electric car to be called E2O - launching December 2012

Mahindra & Mahindra's Electric car, which is currently in the final stages of its development and testing is expected to go on sale early December 2012. The new electric car which is likely to be called at E2O (E-two-oh) - sounds similar to two molecules of "E" (Electric) and one molecule of "O" (Oxygent). The Electric car from Mahindra will be powered by a 29KW(39.4bhp) electric motor and will use 48-volt compact lithium ion batteries. The expected price of this car should be some where around Rs 5.5 Lac.

The E2O will also be the first Mahindra to come out of the recently inaugurated green plant at Bangalore. Pawan Goenka, president of the automotive division, said that investing in an electric car project makes financial sense. Manufacturing an electric vehicle is cheaper than making cars with internal combustion engines and the cost of building a plant with an annual capacity of 6,000 units is not as high as that of a conventional vehicles facility. M&M has invested Rs 2,500 crore in the electric vehicle plant so far.

Mahindra Compact Verito to be launched in March 2014

Mahindra & Mahindra plans to launch its Verito compact sedan which would enable it to qualify for the excise duty benefits.  The sub 4 meter Verito is expected to retain the front fascia from its sibling, New Verito , however we could just notice the trimmed boot and here comes the new Compact Verito - the sub 4 meter car which could easily compete even with some of the premium hatchbacks including Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai i20 and even with Tata Indigo eCS.

Harley Davidson opens its ninth Indian dealership in Kochi - ‘Spice Coast Harley-Davidson’. The dealership at Kochi will be maintained by an automobile enthusiast, Mr. Mitesh Patel, who will ensure that a true Harley Davidson experience is being experienced to each and every Harley enthusiast. The dealership will have a display of entire 15 motorcycle range in India apart from wide range of genuine Harley-Davidson parts and accessories to customize their bikes.

Audi India opens showroom in Kanpur

Audi India has announced opening of its 22nd world class showroom in India at Kanpur. The German based car maker says, the showroom is spread with an area of 4,000 sqft. with honeycomb facade exterior. Along with this, Audi Kanpur will also manage a 12,000 sqft. Audi service facility in Kanpur.

The car maker has plans to open 3 more showrooms in India in 2012, out of which one will be opened at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The entire Audi India model range will be available for sale in Kanpur. This world-class showroom was inaugurated by Mr. Rahil Ansari, Head – Dealer Development, Audi India and Mr. Gautam Garg, Managing Director, Audi Kanpur (Four Wheels Auto Private Limited).

Located in the heart of Kanpur city and has a display area that can accommodate 5 Audi cars. Audi Kanpur will also house an Audi Shop and the Audi Exclusive elements, where customers can order customized products and purchase a variety of Audi branded merchandise.

The Audi Kanpur servicing facility has a capacity to service 10 cars per day on a single shift basis on a total of 6 bays available for service at Audi Kanpur.

Maruti restarts production of Pixo hatchback at Manesar

 Maruti Suzuki has re-started production of Pixo, Nissan Europe's entry-level hatchback, from its Manesar plant that was locked out for a month due to worker violence.
The Pixo, which is being contract-manufactured by Maruti for Nissan, has been refurbished with a retuned engine that lowers CO2 emissions, helping the vehicle qualify for exemption of road tax and a congestion charge applicable in London, one of the largest markets for small cars in Europe.
"We have added 'stop & start' ignition system to Pixo to make it more fuel-efficient and to also conform to new stringent CO2 emission norms across Europe," said a senior Maruti executive. Besides, Maruti has also improved interiors and added new paint colours.

Maruti is aiming to sell around 10,000 Pixos to Nissan this year; this will help provide a much-needed boost to exports, which had dipped 13% to 53,054 units in the first half of the current fiscal year.
"We have orders to manufacture and ship 10,000 Pixo for Nissan Motors this year as part of the export commitment from our parent Suzuk Motors Corp. Despite the troubles faced earlier in the Manesar plant, we expect to meet this commitment as the production has gradually improved," Maruti Suzuki MD S Nakanishi said.
Earlier this month, Maruti shipped the latest batch of Pixo to Europe, where the Indian carmaker also sells its A-Star compact car under the Alto badge. Pixo, a five-door, four-seater hatchback, is a derivative of A-Star and is refurbished by Maruti as per Nissan's specifications for Europe.

"We have a commitment from Suzuki to supply the small car to feed our Europe distribution channels, and this global alliance has been on for the past four years. We will continue taking the Pixo to Europe to meet our fleet emission targets," Toru Hasegawa, Nissan Motors' VP for Africa, Middle East and India, had told ET recently at the launch of the Evalia utility vehicle.
Analysts say the resumption of Pixo supplies to Nissan will help Maruti get production at Manesar back on track.

Volkswagen to launch VW Up with Diesel engine in 2013

The German Auto giant, Volkswagen confirmed on the side lines of the ongoing Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil that the car maker will launch the Up based small car with a diesel engine in the first half of 2013. The diesel engine will be powered a two cylinder diesel engine. This was announced by VW's R&D head Ulrich Hackenberg at the Sao Paulo Motor Show on Monday.

He said the two-cylinder engine was compatible with all models in the New Small Family platform, which opens up the possibility of a two-cylinder diesel version of the NSF-based VW Taigun concept when it makes production as expected in 2015.

Hackenberg also revealed that the engine would be derived from the unit fitted to the radical XL1 concept car, which uses an electric motor and extremely low weight to compensate for the fact that the engine puts out just 35kW.

Nissan to launch 10 new products for India including Nissan's Duster

Nissan Motors India, NMI is all set to grab a major chunk of the fast growing Indian automobile market. Nissan entered the Indian market in 2005 with a target to capture a small market - with two models, X-Trail and Teana, both priced above Rs 20 Lac range. The car maker later introduced the Indian market with 370Z too, however it could sell only in single digits.

Later in 2010, the car maker launched the hatchback in order to woo the growing hatchback buyers and to take benefit of the long waiting time of the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The car maker also introduced the Indian market with Sunny sedan in 2011 but both of them combined could not mark a dent in the Indian market, however it certainly improved Nissan's perception in India and did a lot for taking the numbers for Nissan to few thousands every month.

Over the next four years, Nissan hopes to change that scenario - it is aiming to prop up share from 1.5% to 8% by 2016 with the help of 10 new products; this will include the Datsun range, which will be positioned below the Nissan models. In the near term, Nissan is counting on the ace which is currently doing wonders for Renault across the globe since 2000 and in India since July 2012. Nissan Motors India has plans to launch 10 products for Indian market including the Duster SUV and also the Datsun range for India thereby taking its market share from current 1.5% to 8% in 2016.  Datsun range, will be placed below the Nissan range of models.

Renault Duster D Cross Concept unveiled at Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil - Must Watch

The French car maker, Renault today showcased the D Cross Concept version of its highly selling SUV - "The Duster". This futuristic (notice the front fascia) and rugged (Notice the roof mounted spare wheel) looking SUV is a must watch and can change anybody's perception of a Green colored SUV.

“In Brazil customers love the rough image of the Duster, so this takes that to the maximum. It’s been 100 per cent developed by Brazilian designers in our studio here in Sao Paulo”, said the Renault Brazil CEO, Olivier Murguet.

The DCross sports a two-tone finish with the front three-quarters of the SUV painted in bright green and the rear section in matte black, while it also gets a newly styled front end with a more futuristic look, as well as different tail lamps, beefier rocker panels and roof rails housing the spare wheel.

Well, the car maker as of now has no plans to put this concept into production, but at least it has given a food of thought to our Renault Duster fans to modify their beauties into a butchy machine !!!

VW Taigun Mini SUV revealed in Brazil, will it be launched in India too ?

Volkswagen has revealed a Compact SUV at the ongoing Sao Paulo Motor Show, its VW Taigun, yes we didn't misspell the Tiguan. Will this be a competitor to Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport ? - time will tell !!!

On the sidelines of the Sao Paulo Motor Show, Volkswagen Sales Chief Christian Klingler said “A small SUV would have promising market potential for example in India, South America, Mexico and partly in China.”

The Mini-SUV if made for India too, could have a huge potential for VW India too, as the Compact segment market is showing a huge boost in the emerging markets especially India as of now, with the consumer willing to pay a little more to upgrade from sedan to a SUV, say Renault Duster that we saw in India and is willing to upgrade from hatchback to a Mini SUV for India, say Mahindra Quanto.

The Taigun is a four-seater powered by a 1.0-litre TSI engine that produces 110 PS and 175 Nm. Weighing just 985 kg, it can speed all the way up to 186 km/h and accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, while delivering a combined fuel consumption figure of 22.2 kpl.

The Taigun sits on 17-inch alloy wheels, with a 205/50 R17 tire rating. The cabin designed with a 280 litre bootspace which expands to 987 liters when the seats are folded down.

“The Brazilian market is very important for the group, so we decided to make a release, a concept made on the New Small Family platform,” Hackenberg said.

Ford EcoSport with 4WD and Automatic transmission showcased in Brazil

Ford EcoSport with 4WD and Powershift automatic transmission was recently showcased at the ongoing Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil. Ford EcoSport was recently launched in Brazil . The much hyped Compact SUV for Indian market created a huge buzz in the Indian market while it was first showcased at 2012 Auto Expo. This one from Ford is expected to generate a huge response from the Indian customers as well as it did for Ford Brazil.

Ford EcoSport has several times been caught testing at various places in India and has also been spied several times with an automatic transmission as well.

Ford however has showcased in Brazil, with a 4WD option as well as an automatic transmission, the 4WD option being into light for EcoSport for the first time. Ford notes that the more powerful 2.0-liter 16V flex fuel Duratec engine that motors both show cars, will be launched soon in Brazil.

Honda Cars India launches City CNG along with Audio Visual Navigation package

Honda Cars India Limited launches the City CNG option priced at Rs 9.03 Lac. The customer will have to pay an additional Rs 53,000-54,000 for installation of CNG kit in their car. Honda-approved CNG kit at all the 45 Honda dealerships located in 28 cities where CNG is dispensed.

The retrofitted Honda City comes with a two year warranty as standard. The powertrain is unchanged – it is the same 1.5L, i-VTEC engine with adjustments to the rear suspension to counter the additional weight of the CNG cylinder placed in the boot.

To add to the celebration during the ongoing festive season, Honda Cars India has also included an Audi Visual Navigation Grade, called as AVN in all the variant except the CNG variant. Also, the CNG is not available in the Automatic transmission variant.

The AVN pack comes with Touch Screen, Audio Visual Navigation, Bluetooth, DVD player in addition to CD Player, USB/I-Pod/Aux-in connectivity and Leather upholstery with Leather wrapped steering wheel and Leather wrapped Gear Shift Knob and is available on the V (MT) and V (AT) variants.

  • Nissan to hike prices of Micra, Sunny from November 1

    Nissan Motor India announced a price increase on selected models to offset rising input costs and an unprecedented increase in logistics and transportation costs due to soaring fuel prices. While the recently launched Nissan Evalia multi utility vehicle will not be affected, Nissan will raise the purchase price of the hatchback Micra and midsize Sunny sedan with effect from November 1, 2012.

    "The prices are being revised to partially offset appreciation in input and transportation costs. While all leading automobile companies raised prices earlier this year, we at Nissan absorbed rising input costs and held back the price hike. Although we have now reached the stage where we have to make an adjustment, said Nitish Tipnis, Director - Sales & Marketing, Hover Automotive India. Nissan in India offers innovative and exciting products across hatchback, sports, SUV and sedan segments. It has three locally produced car models Micra, Sunny and the newly launched Evalia.

    Nissan's year -on-year sales in India more than doubled to 33,000 units in FY2011 and it plans to continue the twofold increase in sales in the current financial year, to achieve its target of 100,000 units by 2013. To support the sales growth, Nissan is aggressively expanding its dealer network from 75 dealers at present to 95 dealers by end of the current financial.

    Speed Car Wash to open 25 outlets in South India in 2 years

    After its success in North India, 'Speed Car Wash' is all set to tap the South Indian market, with plans to open 25 outlets in the next two years, a top company official said today. 

    "The company entered the car wash market with Italian technology just 18 months ago and 17 units have already been opened in the North, a majority of them on franchisee basis," Pushpinder Singh, Country Head, Business Development, Speed Car Wash, told reporters here. 

    Singh, who was here to open outlets in the city and nearby Tirupur, the first in Tamil Nadu, said the company has started operations in Bangalore and Mysore. 

    It planned to open 25 units in two years in Southern India with 10 in Tamil Nadu alone in one year on the franchisee model. 

    With 35 million cars on the road and growing at the rate of 10 per cent, the demand for a professional and reliable cleaning service is higher than ever and only going to increase further, Singh said. 

    The company is in talks with petrol bunks and big malls to open car wash outlets, he said adding the washing process would take only 20 minutes with rates ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 1,500, depending on the car model. 

    He said it was a unique mechanised car cleaning concept where cars get 'pampered' with the latest equipment, including high pressure cleaning machines, spray extraction machines, high powered vaccum cleaners and steam cleaners. 

    It reduces water consumption by upto 60 per cent, which makes it eco-friendly as well, Singh added. 

    The company also planned to start mobile car washing units at the earliest, he said.
