Ford India has started divulging the details on EcoSport but has been doing it in stages. Now comes the feature list of Ford EcoSport. Ford has clearly mentioned that Renault Duster would be main rival of Ford in India, however Ford has planned to launch the EcoSport at a price less than Renault Duster's price level. Ford India will achive this due to smaller length, less than 4 meter and sub 1.5L engine which will help then in keeping the price levels lower.
Despite of a sub 4 meter car, Ford EcoSport will come with as much as 20 small storage spaces. This would include glove box as a cooler and a slide-drawer / tray beneath the front seat. Ford Ecosport will have 346 liters trunk and if the rear seats folded the space could be increased to 560 liter and Ford claims that you could keep a 560 liters washing machine in its back with rear seats folded. The seats would come with 60:40 folding option.
The other features include Hill launch assist, Smart start stop button, The Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control and ABS offer effortless precision. The much awaited is Ford's SYNC technology which is well described by statement - "You Talk. Things happen" Just say the words and SYNC does the rest. Dial home. Read-out text messages. Browse and select music tracks. Even if you’re on a call when it’s time to get in or out of your EcoSport, just keep talking. SYNC automatically switches you between your handset and car.
“EcoSport will be a value proposition as a sub-four metre car. Over 70 per cent of all cars sold in India are small cars sold in this segment,” Michael Boneham, MD, Ford India told FC. Mahindra & Mahindra will launch sub-four metre SUV named Quanto around Rs 6 lakh later this month, the first four-metre SUV in the country after Maruti Suzuki trimmed Dzire sedan earlier this year. Mahindra’s Verito will also see a shorter version next year.
EcoSport may help Ford significantly spruce up overall volumes. “Apart from 1.0 litre petrol engine that performs like a 1.4, we will also have a global diesel engine fit in the car. Including automatic transmission, we will give customers all sort of options in different variants,” Boneham added.
