Delhi-Gurgaon expressway free ride on till Tuesday

Private commuters driving on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway will enjoy a toll-free ride at least till Tuesday. Extending the period of toll suspension for private vehicles, Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday allowed the expressway contractor to collect toll from commercial vehicles with immediate effect.

The court also asked why the toll, which is Rs 21, cannot be revised to a rounded figure, which would make it easier for users to pay.

The division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice R K Jain also directed the concessionaire, Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd to set up split toll plazas by Sunday, which would increase the number of ticket windows from 32 to 53. This would be done by setting up temporary windows some distance away from the present plaza.

The court also asked the concessionaire to implement all plans decided upon by the three stakeholders on Wednesday to decongest the toll plaza.

The court was informed that a plan had been finalized to convert traffic coming from Udyog Vihar and entering Delhi by setting up new toll booths on an already built link road. This will provide direct access to the expressway bypassing the present toll plaza. Moreover, two cash lanes at the extreme left of the toll plaza will be left open and six-seven temporary booths installed down the road to process vehicles passing through these lanes.
Stay tuned for more updates.
