Toyota launches Grand New Fortuner in Indonesia

Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), a joint venture between Indonesia’s Astra International and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) of Japan, introduced on Wednesday its new sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Grand New Fortuner VNTurbo with Intercooler.

The new diesel-based Fortuner incorporates 2 KD-FTV Variable Nozzle Turbos (VNT), which are able to release more air pressure at a lower RPM compared to other similarly sized turbochargers, resulting in larger torque.

TAM aims to sell 6,000 units of the model in the domestic market this year, marketing director Joko Trisanyoto said during the launch in Jakarta.

“As of July, we have sold around 11,700 Fortuners and hope to get a significant boost with the new model,” he said.

Toyota expects to control 36 percent of the country’s total automotive sales this year. During the first half, it sold 202,519 units, a 37.8 percent share in overall domestic sales of 535,263 units.

Toyota sold 12,312 units of the 4x2 Fortuners in the local market in the period. The firm also sells Fortuners overseas, including in Asia and the Middle East
