Nissan to build SUV based on Renault's Duster platform - Images

Renault-Nissan India was a collaboration to make similar platform products under different badge and separate prices. The partnership is now well known in India for badge engineering as the duo together have made several products. say Renault's Pulse based on Nissan's Micra platform.

Similar is the case happened with Sunny-Scala. Nissan's popular sedan in India named "Sunny" gathering sales of apprx. 3,000 units per month triggered fire within Renault and then it gave birth to Scala, which is mechanically similar and almost similar identically, baring few more chrome inserts in Scala and typical Renault hexagonal grill in front.

The duo car maker is now working on Duster based SUV for Indian market. Takayuki Ishida, MD and CEO of Nissan Motor India said, “We’re interested in the SUV market, and we need to have a good product. Globally, we have a lot of choice. But to arrive at a good price range, we would need to localise. Using the Duster platform is one of the options we are looking at.”

Nissan currently sells the premium ‘X-Trail’ in the SUV segment, prices of which start at Rs 22.6 lakh. But, the interest in cheaper, compact SUVs is highlighted by the fact that UV sales have grown 54 per cent to 1.62 lakh units between April and July this year.

There would be minor tweaks in the Nissan's Duster based SUV - front grill with chrome inserts on it and rear would carry few changes as well. The car maker is still to roll out further details on this product. Stay tuned for more details.
