Mahindra & Mahindra launches utility vehicles like XUV5OO, Scorpio & pick up trucks in Kenya

In a bid to boost its exports, India's largest utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra has rolled out slew of utility vehicles and pick up trucks for the Kenyan market.

M&M launched its much sought after XUV5OO SUV, the Scorpio SUV and Pick Up range, the Genio Pick-Up and the Maxximo mini-truck.

The company appointed Simba Corporation as the sole dealer for Mahindra vehicles in Kenya and the dealership will trade under Xylon Motors, will offer the full range of Mahindra vehicles as well as provide complete servicing facilities, testing and an extensive after sales department supplying parts and accessories.

"Kenya is a strategic market for us within the African continent and our range of utility vehicles and pick ups have carved a distinct niche for themselves in markets across the world including Europe, South Africa, Egypt, South and Central America and Australia and I'm sure Kenya will be no exception," said Sanjay Jadhav, senior general manager, exports (Africa & Middle East), Mahindra & Mahindra.

Mahindra & Mahindra's automotive exports jumped over 70% in FY-12, with over 29,176 units shipped, with the addition of new markets and products like XUV 5OO, it is expected to grow in strong double digits in FY-13 as well, opined experts.

Kenya is one of the very few markets, where XUV 5OO has been launched and M&M intends to roll out the same in the market of Australia very soon.

Simba Corp has invested close to 600 milion shillings in Xylon Motors and will offer new car owners warranty, parts and after-sales service at very competitive pricing.

The company says, this will enable Mahindra to further consolidate its presence in Kenya. M&M's African footprint extends to Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan and South Africa where it has a JV, Mahindra South Africa.

Mahindra already has a significant presence in Kenya where it sells its tractors through M/s Timsales, a part of the Rai Group.

The statement issued by the company says, "Mahindra has a strategic intent and focus for the African continent where it already has a significant presence in automobiles, IT, tractors and energy."x
