Scania Commercial Vehicles India today laid the foundation stone for its newindustrial plant in Narasapura, Bangalore, which will assemble trucks andbuses for the Indian market.
The ground-breaking ceremony was held at the manufacturing site in Narasapura (20km from Hosakote). The new plant will feature a completely knocked-down (CKD)assembly unit for truck and bus chassis, along with planned bodybuilding of city busesand coaches. The facility has been specially designed to be in line with the globalstandards of the Scania Group.
Henrik Fagrenius, Managing Director, Scania Commercial Vehicles India, laid thefoundation stone for the new plant. Sivakumar Viswam, Director Sales, SureshEkambaram, Director After Sales and Stefan Wiklund, Director Finance were also partof the ground-breaking ceremony.
The new plant demonstrates Scania’s commitment to India. Scania plans to investINR 2.5 billion (SEK 322 million) in the new production facility over the next year andwill employ up to 800 people in this facility over the next five years. The CKD plant willbe constructed on an area of about 140,000 m2, and the first rollout of trucks andbuses is expected in early next year.
