Zotye Auto recently launched what would be the cheapest car to go on sale in China today. When Tata took a similar initiative for India, it found itself filing some 31 design and 37 technology patents with the Nano. But “Zotye International Automobile Trading Co., Ltd” couldn’t have cared less about patents.
The Zotye Z100, claimed to be the cheapest car, has launched in Zotye’s home town of Hangzhou, China. This car seems to be a successor of the Suzuki Alto of Jiang Nan Auto Company. The company was bought by Zoyte, sometime back. The Jiang Nan Auto Company has made Suzuki Alto (Maruti Suzuki Astar is Alto in other markets) under license. However, we are not sure if this car is a legal replica or Zotye have taken a pinch of the Alto for their own.
So how much does the Z100 cost? Prices start at just 23,800RMB ($3,700USD) and rise to the giddy heights of 25,800RMB ($4,000USD) for the top of the line model. Engine power comes from a 1.0L engine mated to a 5 speed gearbox.
