Skoda already sells a sedan called Rapid on the Indian market but the Europe-bound variant will reportedly be significantly different. It will likely borrow styling cues from the MissionL concept that was revealed at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
On the old continent the Rapid will fill the gap between the Fabia hatchback and the larger Octavia sedan in Skoda’s lineup. It will carry a base price of just over €13,000 ($16,900) and come generously equipped with standard ABS, ESP and numerous airbags in order to compete against similarly-priced offerings from Chevrolet, Hyundai and Kia.
The Skoda Rapid will feature a redesigned interior but most of the components will come from the Polo’s parts bin. The exterior is styled like the MissionL concept car showcased at last year’s Frankfurt Auto Show. The quality or finish could be a couple of notches better than the Indian Rapid and under the hood, Skoda could offer turbo-petrol engines.
