Hi-Bird launches luxury rickshaw for European markets at Rs 1.5 lakh, Indian markets for Rs 25,000

Ludhiana bicycle maker Hi-Bird Group on Thursday said it has developed a high-end rickshaw, priced between Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, for the European and the US markets, and aims to sell about 500 units in the next fiscal.

"We have developed a super luxury rickshaw which will be priced between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh and will be only for export market of Europe and USA...we target to sell 500 units of such rickshaws," the group Managing Director R D Sharma said today.

The 21-speed rickshaw, developed in the Ludhiana factory, is completely aluminium-based compared to traditional iron and steel based ones prevalent in the Indian market, he said. "The high-priced rickshaws are meant only for the niche markets and will be used for high-end tourism and hospitality sector of overseas markets," he said.

The company has also announced that it will also launch rickshaws for the Indian market that will be rolled out tomorrow, priced at Rs 25,000-30,000.

"The rickshaw for Indian market is steel-based, which will be suitable for Indian conditions. We will target country's major tourist destinations like Taj Mahal and Golden Temple for marketing our product," he said

Executive Director of the group, Suresh Sharma, said the company has in-house R&D centre and state-of-the-art manufacturing plants with production capacity of 20 lakh bicycles per annum.
