Fiat and Maruti Suzuki India have agreed to sign the pact that Fiat will supply 100,000 diesel engines to Maruti Suzuki India Limited on an annual basis for three years starting from January 2012. The diesel engines will be produced under the licence of Fiat India Automobile Limited (FIAL), the joint venture between Fiat and Tata Motors.
The production of the 1.3L MultiJet 75hp engine for MSIL will start in the fourth week of January at FIAL’s Ranjangaon plant near Pune in Maharashtra State. These volumes will be in addition to the 1.3L MultiJet SDE engines already licensed by Fiat and manufactured by Suzuki Powertrain India Limited.
The 1.3L Multijet 75hp BS-IV SDE is a 4 cylinder, 16V engine that incorporates Fiat’s acclaimed Mutijet injection technology that has changed the way India perceives diesels.
