2013 Porsche Boxster unveiled - Review

Porsche has brought out a brand new generation of its entry-level Boxster convertible, one that’s lighter, more powerful, and more fuel-efficient than the model it replaces.

Porsche boasts that the latest version of its two-seater, mid-engined roadster is "lighter, more efficient and more agile" than the model it replaces, which itself is widely regarded as one of the best handling cars money can buy.

Despite the engine capacity of the entry-level Boxster dropping from 2.9 to 2.7 litres, power increases by 10bhp to 261bhp. The Boxster S retains its 3.4-litre capacity, with power increased by 5bhp to 311bhp.

Once again both a Boxster and sportier Boxster S will be available. Both are powered by flat-six engines with direct fuel injection, the efficiency of which is further enhanced by electrical system recuperation, thermal management and an engine start-stop function. Porsche promises the cars are roughly 15 percent more fuel-efficient than previous models. Final EPA figures will be released closer to launch.

The Boxster will now be available with a base price of £37,589 for the normal model ($49,500 in America) and £45,384 for the S ($60,900 in America).
