India : Toyota to recall 41,000 units of Etios and Liva models

Japanese auto maker Toyota suffered heavily last year due to recall of various brands across the Globe. However, no one could ever dreamt of recalling its latest added models to its portfolio, Etios sedan and Liva hatchback models in India, one of the emerging markets.

The automaker has recalled 41,000 vehicles across India to replace the faulty inlet pipe to Fuel tank. Toyota launched Etios sedan first in India, and thereby deciding to launch a hatchback variant of its sedan thus named Liva. Since both cars are made of same platform and have almost zilch difference except the boot, the suppliers for most of the components were same. Also, for inlet pipe the supplier for Etios and Liva was same one, the name was not disclosed. The company will be replacing filler hose (inlet pipe to the fuel tank) as it could crack up leading to fuel leakage when the tank is filled to the brim .

"It is a proactive approach by us. This development is not at all dangerous but as per Toyota's worldwide policy, we are informing customers that they can come to dealers at their convenient time and replace the pipe," TKM Deputy Managing Director - Marketing Sandeep Singh said.

Mr. Sandeep Singh said, it would just take 30-45 minutes to replace the inlet pipe.
