The BMW R1200GS has been the bike of choice of many travellers. The bike has proved its capabilities on numerous occasions. Hollywood star Ewen McGregor and his friend and actor Charlie Boorman took the bike on a trip around the world. A few years later, the chaps rode their bikes from Scotland to Cape Town. The BMW R1200GS never got bogged down through out their journey except for in Siberia where the team had to be assisted by a truck to get to Magadan on the eastern send of Russia.
BMW is now updating its popular endurance bike with a much larger engine and other improvements. The 2013 BMW R1250GS was spotted doing its testing rounds recently. For the first time Asphalt and Rubber has managed to get hold of the clearest images of the upcoming endurance bike from BMW. BMW seems to have gone with their usual horizontally opposed twin-cylinder air-cooled configuration. The R1200GS has been using BMW’s air-cooled engine for quite a while now and could be upgraded into a liquid cooled motor on the new model.
BMW has already started selling their bikes in India. The bikes can be ordered via private dealerships who import the bikes from Germany. BMW Motorad plans to open factory showrooms in the country in coming years once there is substantial demand for their bikes. We expect the new bike to be launched sometime in 2012 and will be available in India once it goes on sale globally.
