Shahrukh Khan buys Mumbai team franchisee for the upcoming i1 Super Series




SRK is also the owner of the Kolkata franchise of the T20 cricket Indian Premiere League. The i1 Super Series will consist of 14 races. 9 teams representing different Indian cities will compete in the inaugural season to be held in 2011-2012 The teams will race with the Radical Sportscars' SR3 roadster in the single-make racing event.


Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan will now be a proud owner of Mumbai owner of the upcoming i1 Super series league scheduled to begin on 08 January 2011. The motor racing league, called the i1 Super Series was launched in August this year. At its launch event, Machdar Motorsports, the promoters had announced that the series, based on the popular city based franchisee format, "We are currently holding talks with atleast 2-3 potential suitors in each of the nine cities for every team," he said without disclosing names", which was then speculated to be SRK, Sachin & Yuvraj.


Machdar Motorsports, the promoters of the I1 Super Series, welcomed Shar Rukh's entry into the league."We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Shah Rukh Khan to the I1 Super Series as the franchisee holder for Mumbai. The announcement marks a momentous occasion for motorsports in India with one of the biggest stars in the country aligning with the highly anticipated series," said Anjana Reddy, director, Machdar Motorsports.
