Maruti Suzuki India is now out of the strike, but now the real challenge for the Japanese Auto maker starts. The company now needs to regain the lost market share. The companies like VW, Skoda and Hyundai have already picking up volumes by launching new models and providing excellent after sales service.
The gain in market share can be done by making consumer buy their cars, and in today's scenario Petrol prices are the major setback for passenger car makers which is not allowing the consumers to purchase more cars despite the festive season and increasing discounts.
General Motors recently launched their 3 cylinder 1.0 Liter Diesel Beat which is doing good for the company. Maruti already having 1.0 Liter cars in place and already producing Diesel engines at its Manesar facility and also almost the finalized contract with Fiat for the Diesel engine, would not be an issue to introduce a diesel variant of its already market leader and market placed hatchback - WagonR.
We expect WagonR diesel should return a fuel efficiency of around 25KMPL and thus reduce the overall running cost of the vehicle and the best part is that the others cars in its portfolio in the entry and B segment cars will also get the same engine to maintain Maruti Suzuki’s overall market share in India. The diesel engine could be a three cylinder variant of the 4 cylinder 1.3 litre engine that is powering the Ritz and the Swift making it aroung 970 cc. The same engine will make its way into other small Maruti cars, helping the company maintain its market share.
