Maruti Chairman RC Bhargava to be awarded The Order of the Rising Sun by Japan on 07 November 2011 at Imperial Palace



Maruti Chairman RC Bhargava will be awarded 'The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star' by The Emperor of Japan for his contribution to the promotion of economic and bilateral relations between Japan and India. The award taking ceremony will be held at The Imperial Palace in Japan on 07 November 2011.

"During his career in Maruti, he has introduced Japanese -style management and Japanese manufacturing culture to India," the statement said.

The Order of the Rising Sun is a Japanese order, established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji of Japan. The Order was the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese Government, created on April 10, 1875 by decree of the Council of State.The badge features rays of sunlight from the rising sun. The design of the Rising Sun symbolizes energy as powerful as the rising sun[3] in parallel with the "rising sun" concept of Japan ("Land of the Rising Sun")

Bhargava was involved in the "Maruti Project" from the beginning. He was appointed as the Managing Director of Maruti Udyog Ltd in 1985. Then he became the Chairman and Managing Director of Maruti Udyog in 1990, a post he held till 1992. Mr. Bhargava was re-inducted to the Board in 2003 and was appointed as the Chairman in 2007, a position he still holds.
