VW Recalls Jettas, Golfs & Audi A3 Models in USA for Potential Fuel-Line Issue

Volkswagen is recalling certain model 2009-2012 Jetta and Jetta Sportswagen vehicles, manufactured from May 2008 through September 2011, Model Year 2010-2012 Volkswagen golf vehicles, manufactured from May 2009 through September 2011, and Model Year 20101-2012 Audi A3 vehicles, manufactured from September 2009 through September 2011, that are equipped with a 2.0L TDI Common Rail Diesel Engine/Clean Diesel Engine.

According to Mark Gillies, a brand spokesman, Volkswagen was not aware of any fires and that only “a handful of vehicles suffered leakage.” The recall affects a total of 168,275 vehicles.

All of the affected cars are powered by 2-liter common-rail diesel engines. Under certain conditions the fuel-injection pulses can coincide with the frequency of the number 2 injector line, causing resonance that puts extra stress on the fuel line. In time the problem can lead to result in small cracks in the fuel line and leaks that could result in fire.

Volkswagen plans to install a better version of fuel injector line for the number 2 cylinder, and also install vibration dampers on all of the injector lines. Customers can contact Volkswagen at 800-822-8987.
