Maruti’s strike ends but old union MUKU can’t get into Manesar unit

The strike at Maruti's Manesar plant has now resolved and the company has agreed to workers demand of forming a new Union at its Manesar plant. While, the demands of the workers have been agreed to but the wages of the workers for the duration they have not worked in the company has not been paid. The workers donot have the right to ask for the same but the agitated workers has demanded Maruti's management to agree to their demand that Workers of MUKU (Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union), the one prevailing in Gurgaon plant will not be allowed to enter into Manesar plant.

In fact, unlike last time, MUKU did not have any say in the talks this time round and the negotiations were held only between the leaders of the agitating workforce at Manesar, Maruti management officials and the state government. However, one issue that still remains unresolved is formation of a separate labour union at Manesar. There has been no clarity on this. However, company officials at Maruti say that the two committees that will be formed were effective enough to take care of any issue related to workers.
