Skoda's new sedan Lauretta which was codenamed SK251 and shares the platform with VW Vento, codenamed VW251 is slated for a launch on 07th October 2011.
The sedan which was earlier rumoured to be Skoda Rapid has finally been named as Skoda Lauretta (I wonder name was picked up by joining Laura + Jetta) . A couple of hours before it was tweeted by Mr. Homzard Sorbajee via his twitter account that the car would be launched in Indian market on 07th October 2011.
The car would be launched in different variants featuring a 1.6 litre Diesel and a Petrol engine. The car would compete with Maruti Suzuki's SX4, Hyundai newly launched Fluidic Verna, Ford Fiesta, Honda City and Fiat Linea. Except City, all other carmakers have their Diesel models ready and working on same grounds, Skoda too decided to launch the car in both Petrol and Diesel variants.
The sedan would deliver a power of 104bhp and would have a Skoda trademark grille in the front. On the exteriors the car might be a couple of mm smaller than VW Vento but on inside the car would have almost equal headroom and legroom. The car would be equipped with features like ABS, EBD, Airbags etc. On the multimedia front we doubt that the car would be equipped with a Navigation system to make the car cost effective.
