Royal Enfield has already started work on a new plant, which will also come up near Chennai, said Venki Padmanabhan, the company’s CEO.
"The plant will be ready for full production by the first quarter of 2013. Our production capacity will then go up to 1.5 lakh units per year from the current 70,000," Padmanabhan said.
Out of the 70,000 motorcycles it hopes to produce this year, Royal Enfield will export around 3,000 units. UK, Germany, Italy, USA, Canada and Japan are among its export markets. The company currently exports to 30 countries and plans to tap ten more countries by December, while it has 180 dealers in India presently.
