Federal Mogul to establish $15 million Brake friction manufacturing plant in Chennai





The US based brake friction manufacturing company had celebrated the ground breaking ceremony yesterday at Chennai. The company has started the construction of its new brake friction manufacturing plant for automotive, construction, industrial and railways. According to the company officials, the company has invested USD15 million and the production would start before the end of this year.


The new facility will be initially be making non-asbestos organic disc brake pads for light commercial vehicles, besides the production of half block linings for commercial vehicles and brake blocks for railways and industrial firms.


Jose Maria Alapont, President and CEO, Federal-Mogul said: "India is certainly one of our strategic bases of operations for serving the automotive market which has huge potential to be capitalized upon.


Alapont further added that the Chennai factory would eventually help the firm to broaden its portfolio of global leading technologies, of course, 'made in India'

The company is present in India since 1950’s the time when it started by a Joint venture. Over the years, the company had established several wholly owned operations and majority joint ventures in India. The company's revenue stands at $ 250 million and had employed in excess of 6,600 persons across its seven manufacturing units in Bagalore, Biwadi, Parwanoo, Patial and Rudraur. When the newest plant goes on stream, it would be the eighth facility of the company in the country
