Toyota Tsusho opens steel plant near Shanghai

Toyota Tsusho Corp. says it has opened a steel fabrication plant in Taicang, in Jiangsu province near Shanghai.

The plant cost 195 million yen (16 million yuan) million to build, and will generate annual sales of 247 million yuan. The facility will store, cut and inspect steel for Japanese automakers in China. According to IHS Automotive's Supplier Business newsletter, Toyota Tsusho is a key supplier to Toyota Motor Corp.
Toyota Tsusho has a number of plants in Jiangsu province. Last year, the company formed a joint venture with Kobe Steel and Mitsui & Co. to make aluminum forgings for suspensions.
And in April, the company joined with Toyobo Fabrics to build an airbag fabric factory. Production will begin in 2012, according to Supplier Business.
