Maruti Suzuki plays safe with August launch of third generation Swift for Indian car market, swif



Next month will see Maruti Suzuki launch the new improved Swift, the company’s bestselling compact car. The hatchback has been phenomenal in regards to sales figures which saw numbers almost treble in a 5 year period. I.V. Rao, managing executive officer (engineering) with MSIL had this to say. “The new Swift would be a completely new car though it may not look like one at the outset. It looks more or less the same but will be bigger and offer more space. It would also have all new interiors which would be the best in class and we have also tried to redress some issues that customers faced with the existing model.”
Having been launched in Europe and Japan last year, the Indian car market launch was held back. This may have been because Maruti Suzuki chose to check what their competition would offer, and to be able to align production against waiting period.

Senior analysts have opined that Maruti Suzuki India doesn’t have an expansive or exciting product portfolio, despite selling a wide range of vehicles in the Indian car market,  and hence,  a refreshed and facelifted version of the Swift, a proven and successful platform for the company is their flavor of the season, a decision they know will not backfire. Not taking into cunt the EECo, the last passenger car launch from Maruti was the Ritz in 2009
