Chinese automaker Chery to produce cars in Brazil

China’s Chery Automobile Co. says it will start making cars in Latin America’s biggest country in 2013.
The automaker says it expects to start production of two models in September 2013, with an initial annual output of up to 60,000 units. Thursday’s statement does not specify the models.

Chery says it hopes to be producing 150,000 vehicles a year by 2016, mainly destined for Mexico and South Africa. Chery says it started building its $400 million plant earlier this week in Jacarei, a city near Sao Paulo.
